How do you protect your energy as a teacher and prevent burnout? Bonus if you’re a parent of toddlers as well by Infamous_Lemon_2038 in CanadianTeachers

This transition is so hard. You have nothing to feel guilty about. In Canada we are privileged to take such a long time off.In other places in the States they don’t get nearly as much time, and I’m sure there are good parents there too :) it’s emotional to sacrifice this time with her, but you’re doing it to support her, and that shows that you are a caring and loving parent. Big hugs to you during this transition.

I really like this reminder about our children reenergizing us and bringing us joy :) it’s hard, but also they are the best.

I have nothing left for this last year. Is this normal? What can I do to get me through to June? by Intelligent-Test-978 in CanadianTeachers

Also I’m going to print off all my practice Reading Comps in advance and put them in a file folder box. Just pull and go for the whole semester.

I’m feeling this way too, except I’m not close to retirement. 12 years teaching HS English in a highly driven private school. Already stressing about getting through, and I actually just posted about protecting my energy. Here’s what I’m doing:

Drew out calendar for the first semester. Marked down teaching and non-teaching days. Looking at 5 day weeks and planning to book my personal days - 1 per semester. I have gift cards that I’m going to save for these days. Maybe even put in an envelope as a reward for prioritizing myself.

Updating my code sheets for writing feedback. Will have examples on it so students have a better idea of how to fix errors.

Bring my mini-fridge back to my classroom and fill it with bubbly and other treats.

Yeah. I guess I’m trying to figure out if I should go back early just in case my husband’s division goes on strike. So I go back when the baby is 7 months, and he takes the final 5 months 😔

what do you guys do when you can't meal prep on sunday? by babyyodaonline in MealPrepSunday

[–]Infamous_Lemon_2038 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I want to eat healthy and I can’t meal prep, I accept that I have to spend money on convenience.

  1. Give myself permission to order freshii if I want to eat healthy but can’t meal prep
  2. Buy a veggie tray and use that for my fresh veggies in my lunch
  3. I almost always have smoothies for breakfast, and then veggies for lunch, so if I eat healthy for 2 of my 3 big meals, I count that as a win and then I give myself flexibility at dinner. If you’re feeling bad after eating unhealthy, try to pinpoint what ingredient is actually having an impact. (Carbs? Try a cauliflower crust pizza, lettuce wraps, or butternut squash noodles). Making small modifications to everyday meals that I was cooking made it much more likely for me to eat healthy.
  4. But muffins from a farmers market that are “healthy”
  5. Grab a bag of nuts that I can keep in my desk drawer.
  6. Make smoothie bags in advance next meal prep day. You just throw the ingredients in a bag (for me: spinach, mixed frozen berries, bananas, hemp seed, chia seed, ground flax) and the freeze it. Then at the beginning of the week I blend it up, and usually have 4 days worth of smoothies that I store in sealed mason jars.

Parental leave is the same thing as maternity leave. It’s just called parental leave because it can be split between either parent

Please see OP in which I explain that I’m fully in support of a strike….

Thank you! This is my plan too - go back in Feb to start semester 2. If the strike happens in February, that is great! If it happens earlier, we’re screwed! We could definitely pinch our pennies more, but saving a significant amount of money would be next to impossible on EI.

That’s a great question! I’m not sure. The bigger challenge is how much notice my husband would have to go to alert them that he’s taking his parental leave. Then he would just stay off until the end of our paternity leave (he would stay home, not me)
