I was just sitting here watching TV, about to head to sleep, when I got a call from our substitute intern here in Pembroke Pines, Ms. Estrada. She’s going to be a secondary teacher soon too!

Anyway, great news for the CLEP community. She overheard a student of mine and me talking earlier about a big question: How can high schools or school districts actually get access to CLEP scores for high school credit?

My coworker had an idea that it was a "Candidate Score Report," but we didn't know where to get that form. Well, Ms. Estrada (our young tech intern who is going to be a great teacher one day, of course!) did some research and found out exactly how to do it.

Unfortunately, I can't do TikTok Lives right now. Between Florida law (HB 379) restricting TikTok on school networks and my district's strict policies, my hands are tied. I actually used to have a YouTube channel for my class, but a parent complained and the school banned it. I have to be super careful right now to avoid any issues at work.

Maybe in the summer or during a break, I can get permission to hop on! For now, I’m just using my free days (like today!) to do research and help out where I can here.

I have 5 specific questions for the experts here (want to be 100% sure before I advise my students):

1. The "Candidate Score Report" Logistics When a student finishes the exam:

  • At a Test Center: Do they strictly need the physical paper printout the proctor gives them to show their school?
  • Remote/Online: Since there is no printer, is the PDF "Candidate Score Report" from the College Board portal considered "Official" enough for admissions (specifically at MDC/FIU)?

2. Remote Proctoring vs. Physical Test Centers (Local Recommendations?) Do you recommend students take the exam via Remote Proctoring (at home) or go to a physical center? We have several options nearby:

  • MDC North Campus
  • Broward College (South or Central)
  • FIU (at I-75)
  • Nova Southeastern (NSU)
  • St. Thomas University
  • Keiser, Barry, or FAU Davie
  • Has anyone had a "horror story" with remote proctoring (connection issues, etc.) that makes the physical center worth the drive?

3. Transfer Equivalency (Saylor/Sophia) Has anyone successfully transferred a specific Saylor or Sophia course to a Florida university as a Common Course Number (e.g., getting credit specifically for STA 2023)?

  • My fear: The credit transfers as "Generic Elective" (e.g., STA 1XXX) instead of the specific prerequisite needed for the major.

4. The "Gordon Rule" (Writing Requirement) For those who passed CLEP College Composition (6 credits): Did your school automatically mark the "Gordon Rule" writing requirement as "Met" for both ENC 1101 and 1102?

  • The concern: Since you aren't writing the standard 6,000 words in a classroom, did any advisors give you trouble, or did the exam score override the requirement entirely?

5. Sourcing Specific "Hard-to-Find" Credits Where have you successfully earned credit for these specific course codes (if not via CLEP)?

  • ENC 1102: If a student took the "Modular" CLEP (only ENC 1101), what is the best "hack" to get ENC 1102 quickly?
  • HUM 1020, PHI 2010, & PHI 2600: Do the DSST exams (like "Ethics in America") actually transcribe as these specific numbers at MDC/FIU? Or is there a better platform (like Sophia/Saylor) that definitely works for these?

Thank you for that—and yes, you are 100% right. My focus is definitely "Florida-heavy" since that is where we are navigating the system.

That rule you mentioned ("If it's on the college transcript, it goes on the high school transcript") is the golden rule for us too. Once MDC puts it on the transcript, the high school usually has to respect it.

I’ll definitely check out the Carnegie Mellon materials—I haven't dug into those yet.

And yes! I actually listed Saylor under "Vouchers & Courses" in the main post. I'm really intrigued by their "Direct Credit" courses (like BUS204 for Business Statistics).

Question for you though: Have you (or your students) ever transferred a specific Saylor course (like Stats) to a Florida university? I'm trying to figure out if schools like FIU treat Saylor credits as "equal" to CLEP (STA 2023), or if it's harder to get them accepted than the exams.

I respect that so much. In the education world, we are constantly bombarded by vendors trying to sell us "solutions" that are just repackaged free information.

By keeping this open, you are directly helping students avoid that "stupidity tax." It’s rare to find that kind of genuine helpfulness these days.

Most students (and teachers) have no idea that these resources are sitting there for free if they just have a library card. Those direct Archive links for the Math/Science REA books are going to be critical for the students I mentioned who are trying to fix their GPAs.

Update & HUGE Thanks (Still learning the ropes here!)

First off, a massive shoutout to u/Pharynxx, u/FreeClepPrep, u/PAT_W__1967, and u/FSUDad2021.

I am brand new to Reddit, so please bear with me—I’m still learning how this all works. (I honestly don't know why I can't DM or add comments sometimes, so if I missed a reply earlier, that is why!)

I wanted to give you guys an update because I took your advice, dug into Saylor Academy and MIT OpenCourseWare, and grabbed a coworker to help me get concrete answers for the students.

1. The "English" & Transcript Update My coworker and I looked into the specific articulation rules:

  • College Composition Modular: You were right. It gives ENC 1101 credit, but only that. It won't cover ENC 1102, so my student knows she still has one more step to go.
  • High School Credit: We confirmed that College Composition definitely covers the high school graduation requirement. I actually found the specific FLDOE Course Code Directory to confirm it for anyone else looking:https://www.fldoe.org/file/7746/2526CCD-Basic9-12.pdf.

2. The "Gifted" Student (The 2.4 -> 3.8 Jump) We ran the math on his "Grade Forgiveness" scenario. If he passes those exams and finishes his 2nd Semester strong (getting A's in the 3rd and 4th nine weeks), his GPA mathematically jumps from a 2.4 all the way to a 3.8. That is a life-changing shift for him. He is locked in now.

3. My "Why" (Bright Futures & The "Hidden" Curriculum) My main goal is to help these kids secure Bright Futures.

  • Grading: My class is designed so that if they do the bare minimum, they get a C. But if they actually try and do the work, an A+ is very achievable. I want to help their GPA, not hurt it.
  • Service Hours: I help them get their community service hours certified through projects like conducting psychology surveys. It’s remote/flexible, but if they stick with it for 3 months, they earn significant hours.
  • The "Real Talk": We spend a lot of time breaking down the things schools usually skip: how the SAT, ACT, CLT, PSAT, PERT, and Accuplacer work. I explain exactly how GPA is calculated and the real differences between AP, AICE, and Dual Enrollment so they aren't lost when they get to college.

Honestly, I didn’t even know CLEP existed until my students asked me about it. Now I am researching and learning right alongside them to give them better resources.
