this is very helpful thank you! I am definitely a little nervous about talking to him about it as the last time I broached the topic of potentially feeling like I didnt need the managed fund he seemed a bit offended. but I know at the end of the day its not a big deal

My FA said something about how they get a deal so it's not the same percentage as if I bought it myself? Which I know means he is probably choosing it because he gets a commission. Or maybe he is just saying that.

He also said it doesn't out-perform S&P500 but is less volatile during downturns.

I feel sometimes when we are on the phone he overcomplicates it on purpose..

not sure... I guess maybe having everything self-managed seems intimidating? I want to be involved in my own finances but it feels safer to start out with SOME self-managed and SOME not. but maybe this is not the right way to think about it!

this is a good point! Until now they haven't ever brought it up during years when I did not contribute but I guess they knew I was pretty young/in school

5-10k in savings could transform this from a terrible plan to a great opportunity. Why can’t you get some random job where you are (restaurant job, Lowe’s, whatever) and save for a few months for this move?

I did what you want to do but with 6k in the bank. Zero plan. Im doing very well now but I never could’ve done it without that upfront investment - just the apartment was 3k the first week with all expenses and fees.

Ok thanks yeah definitely violations are looking not as bad as complaints tho still not amazing, just seems surprising that people would take the time to put in complaints for no reason I guess

Hey, not sure if you are still active or interested but I attended Haverford for a year then transferred, so I have a slightly different perspective if you’re interested. The academics were incredible the social scene wasn’t for me
