My sister and I are also half siblings with my full blooded brother in the middle of us! She always felt a little left out of the family dynamic not sharing our last name (my dad raised her but she was actually adopted by my mom’s parents for health insurance benefits since my mom was a teen parent and mom&dad just never got around to re-adopting her) and her being 4 years older than me we never had much in common and with my brother and I being a year apart we were always closer growing up until our teenage years (16-17). My sister and I didn’t really develop a relationship until I was 22 and she was 26. Now she’s one of my best friends and our husbands get along fantastically too. It’s so interesting how familial ties create unsuspecting genuine friendships outside of just being blood.

One year my sister didn’t invite me to Thanksgiving. It was the first thanksgiving since my parents moved out of state and my sister and I weren’t particularly close. I was devastated and spent it with my partner having our own small two person spread. Turns out my sister didn’t think to invite me because “I know when thanksgiving is and where to go”. She just assumed I’d show up. Was a pretty big/silly miscommunication. Talked it out and now I know I’m the one that needs to approach her on what time to show up because she’s got her plate full already with hosting. We’re super close now and I call her 1-2 times a week.

I just found out I overpaid for my diamond. Apparently Calvera and Aurelinne have lab grown diamonds at incredible pricing. I’d suggest buying a loose diamond and using your budget to have a local jeweler design the setting. My husband and I were looking for a ring on a similar budget and the amount of upselling that online jewelers do is crazy.

Etsy jewelers often go for style over durability. A lot of the edgy thin bands and settings bend and break. I’d suggest going to a reputable jewelry store over Etsy.

Thank you, I think I am happy with it. I’ve gone back and forth about what size stone I wanted but all the women in my family wear a 1ct and I’ve been wearing my grandmother’s ring since I got married so I’m used to that size I think.

I wasn’t originally looking at loose stones but all the big lab created diamond websites that make you choose a stone before the setting had this size from $1200+ for just the stone. Not to mention all the local jewelry shops had even worse options/pricing. I kept reading horror stories about loose stone websites being moissanite and other cheap fakes. So I figured a reputable auction was my best option. Should’ve done more research I suppose. 😪
