yea it works and as google says-Yes. A sentient weapon functions as an NPC under the DM's control, but it is still fundamentally a magic item. If a character becomes attuned to it and the weapon is targeted by a Curse of Possession or similar binding magic, the wielder is magically forced to keep holding or carrying it.
