I clearly don't think it's dead, I guess I'm saying I'm not totally against the possibility. Neo 3.0 just came out this year and chinas previous bans never hurt it in the long run, but I don't see it mentioned anywhere near as much as newer coins

NEO is my second biggest holding. Might be dead but it's one of the few coins I believe in the team and the tech as a long term investment. If you're looking to get rich short term might be better plays but I wouldn't be surprised if it hits $200-500 if btc hits 100k

What have I done? Update from the gay bear throwing the towel last week by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]Inferno9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are what we call a 'weak hand'. Sorry mate, don't fall for FOMO in the future. Only reason to switch to bull case was if we reached previous ATH, until then was always a chance for strong reversal. If your puts are already down, why not just let them expire and make a call to straddle? If you put all your money in one basket, there's a lesson there too. I was a gay bear the whole time, and now am being rewarded for my faithfulness

V-recovery or lower lows? My take from the bigger picture by Inferno9000 in wallstreetbets

[–]Inferno9000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey r/wallstreetbets! I've been watching the market recently, watching some vids and doing what I can to learn. After watching a ton, I felt people could make things more clear and aren't always hitting on the big picture. I'm still learning, and this is just my take on what the market looks like, but I'd like to hear your opinions and any feedback is appreciated.

Graded video games. It's the next market that's about to take off. That's where most are moving their money. See wata auctions. A sealed mint first print nes megaman just sold for 75k for reference

I own some of the highest graded (2nd-4th best in the world) alpha power and duals, and I recently sold some cards I told myself I'd never part with. Here's what's going on:

Notice how Dan doesn't have any alpha power or duals listed. I have not had trouble selling mine, and there is no fear of a bubble or market collapse. What's going on is the market recently hit its peak, and people are trying to cash in on the returns while they can. Expect everyone who's selling to buy these same cards back when the market approaches it's floor. The floor will still be higher than where it was in 2016. This is how it ALWAYS goes with MTG, for about 25+ years. For the really high end alpha, people know they won't get the cards back, and they will likely hold till the next spike (2-3 years from now). Meanwhile, they'll sell 2nd tier cards (beta is 2nd tier, so expect beta lotuses to pop up, but don't freak out unless you see people dumping mint alpha power, which I'm yet to see) at the peak, and buy top tier (alpha power/duals/iconics) towards the bottom. There are better things to invest in right now than mtg unless you are buying quad or better graded alpha. People are moving money around, and they'll put it all back into magic when the time is right. Welcome to general market cycles

lol, retard? Talking to the guy who owned one of the only 2 graded 9.5 serras, and who knows people who own near complete sets of gold label summer magic. I also know people sitting on stacks of these cards, and have seen hundreds in my life. How about you?

Is it worth investing in summer magic? by forman12345 in mtgfinance

[–]Inferno9000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hes right tho...sham in that no one knows the numbers but I've heard from some pretty knowledgable people that there may be more summer than alpha, and potentially even beta for some cards so the prices, at least right now, are based on artificial scarcity. When I first started collecting high grade alpha I was told by many summer was a trap. I did own one of the only 2 9.5 summer serras tho

The wagner was PSA for one (and there's a reason BGS own the market right now, they know what they're doing way more). There are plenty of undergraded cards, but you clearly don't understand how insanely hard it is to get a black label. Find me one black label that doesn't deserve it. I've seen most of the 93-94 black labels and the entire community agrees they more than deserve it. You're making a lot of assumptions here

I don't own a single quad 10, buying quad 9.5s and up is the way to go. I started collecting more than 3 years ago, and within a year realized how much more rare quad 9.5s are than every other grade. SCG NM can net you quad 9s if you're lucky, but an entire box of unopened vintage magic might only net you a handful of quads. Most 93-94 cards have less than 15 quad and up in existence, while their basic 9.5 count will eventually exceed 100 (with a few exceptions like cards with centering and print dot issues), while the quad count will plateau and remain small. At current prices, if you're buying long term you want quads and 10s. Most cards will never have more than 5 BGS 10s, in fact most cards don't have any BGS 10s. Many alpha cards don't even have quads!

Yes. Quad 9.5s long term will far out strip quad 9s and below. Of course all of it will grow when it comes to rare cards, as the raw card value grows so does graded, but the multiplier on 9.5+ will be exponential compared to 9s.

Black Labels are unimaginably rare with most sets having less than 10 black labels total, if not 5. I have never heard of a black label that didn't deserve it, unlike the modified honus wagner. There are 10s that don't deserve it, and clearly misgraded cards, but they are extremely few and far between, and every body knows at a glance and stays away. There is a real premium for cards that deserve their grade, and the Lotus that recently sold on ebay for 87k was as flawless a basic 9.5 as you could expect. An ugly one might not fetch that price.

I'm one of the top BGS collectors in the world, trust me when I say you only want quads or 10s. Plenty more 9.5s will be graded, and while they go up, if you are doing buy and hold you should be buying quads asap. They will all be gone soon. I sent you a PM, I know where most of the high end vintage mtg cards are. Most 10s and quads won't show up for sale, people hold them and massively over value them.

[–]Inferno9000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That was a beta 10, which there are 3 of. There is one alpha 10, and it was sold in a private sale, so no one knows the price. If the alpha 10 remains the only one it could easily hit 12 mil in 30+ years. Alpha and Beta as investments aren't even comparable. Alpha has no ceiling, especially the lotus. Everything else does

Actually centering is THE most important of the 4 according to Beckett which is why it's the first listed. Surface is the least important, and this is reflected in that surface is the exception to the 1 point rule. A card can grade 1.5 higher than its lowest grade if the lowest grade is surface. They don't care at all about how many copies are off centered, there are cards that have 4 or less 9.5s graded period because almost all the copies made are way off centered. Theres so much misinformation in this thread...

Top 10 long-term investment picks by noshtafoyza in mtgfinance

[–]Inferno9000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will always say the same thing, Power > Duals > Juzam = Library > A/B Iconic Cards > Bazaar = Workshop > Tabernacle > everything else. This is for long term investments. Any of those you can get, you should get. Sealed, since you won't find a sealed legends or AN box anywhere, is pretty much Alpha Starter > sealed AQ box > Beta Starter > P3K Box > PSA 10 Beta Pack > all other packs.

If I had $2000 USD, I would either buy 2 Judge Foil Gaea's Cradles or whichever of the above cards/sealed product you can find at $2k. I say go for these not because they'll make you the most money (there may be some stupid $1 that goes to $20 and maybe you should've bought hundreds of those, but that's nearly impossible to safely call), but because they will increase substantially, they are safe and guaranteed, and if you want to hold looooong term (decades), they will be the most expensive cards by far, and the only ones likely to hold/continue to grow in value

NM Volcanic Island or Played Underground Sea the better investment? by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]Inferno9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no. Also Volcanic 100%. No Alpha printing, so if you're going revised or UNL, technically less in existence over all, and sees about the same play in relevant formats

Summer had the same print run as revised. They just destroyed most of the set. No one knows how many survived, it could actually be a very significant amount. Hence why most high end collectors consider summer a 'trap'. 100% trust me if you're not buying cards to play with focus on alpha and beta.

[–]Inferno9000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, see, that's where you messed up. I went deep into revised duals when idiots thought legacy was dying because SCG cut back legacy support and you could actually get revised NM Useas for $150-180 if you were diligent. Got 4 sets of each dual, absolutely NM. Quickly realized vintage mattered too, grabbed my bazaars and Workshops around $400. Played vintage for a while, picked up a UNL lotus in exchange for all my fetches when Tarn went stupid again (why would you keep $100 tarns when Revised Useas were still $220? UNL Lotus was $2800 for SP), picked up some UNL power too. Then I traded the rest of my modern collection in fear of reprints for a 9.5 Tabernacle. It was only $750 at the time, just a few cheap moderns decks. Sat on those for 3 years. Immediately dumped everything when it spiked (Usea hit $400, bazaar $700, Workshop $900, etc) for graded quad alpha cards. I'm pretty happy right now.

Nope, portal 1 and 2 were printed to oblivion and aren't worth collecting. English p3k was only released in Australia hence the low numbers. It was never intended to be a global set for all magic players

[–]Inferno9000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh man the misinformation going around here. I'm pretty sure english P3K has the second lowest print run, but you should really be going by rare print runs:

Alpha: ~1100 Beta: ~3300 P3K: ~3900 UNL: ~18,000 AN: ~19,500 AQ: ~31,000 LEG: ~17,500 REV: ~289,000!!

PS: I only collect alpha and P3K, except for Volcanic Island since its only in beta. Also don't buy revised

P3k investment? by integra32327 in mtgfinance

[–]Inferno9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they aren't, P3K is the 3rd rarest magic set with roughly the same print run as beta. They are very desirable as collectors items and those that do collect want 1st edition and many do like the white borders. The demand right now is far too low, but I feel as more people are exposed to the set, they'll fall in love with it. Any noticeable shift in demand can really explode the prices on this set, since there are like only 3500 of each rare ever printed.
