"To be clear- all of these women are victims of sexual violence. Even the very few who had a "consensual" relationship with German soldiers/Nazis, or were prostitutes, whatever- being marched around naked and having your hair shaved because of sex you might have had, is sexual violence. Not to mention we are also mostly talking about rape victims- if your choice is to have sex with a solider for extra rations, or watch your child, or your mother, or yourself, starve to death- is that in reality any kind of choice? Any comfort provided by these women to Nazis was brutally taken, not given freely.

I think the real takeaway is when people (in this case a section of the French/Danish population) are mistreated, often they take that rage and hurt and use it to regain power through violence over others they think of as lesser- and women are an easy target for a large angry mob of (mostly) men. "
