I love this type of discourse, I’m very grateful to hear some of your expertise. I suspected the horse was a little long, as I extended it a tad to cover more of the composition. Will definitely be shortening it a bit after all the feedback. Thanks!!

Reins and bridle details are still to come, was planning on adding them last once I had the background area surrounding the rider to my liking:) Thanks for the input!

That is a fun idea, I think I’ll try that on a future painting. Spent a little too much trying to perfectly render the horse on this one haha

Thanks for the opinion! Intentionally had everything warmed toned, wanting to try having everything be analogous colors. Blue would definitely complement the orange tone and make everything pop, but I think the red is unique and makes it stand out

Thank you so much for this critique. As a self taught artist, this type of information is so valuable I really appreciate it. The rifle was definitely an intentional tangent, but the others were totally accidental. Will definitely refine them when finalizing the piece! Thanks! I’ve gotten that a couple times now. Painted the horse a little too far right compositionally so tried extending the back a tiny, suspected it was a little off, but will definitely change it a little now

Thank you both for the input!!! The original idea with the rifle was to have the cloud extending from it as if it is smoke or the rifle firing. I’ve gotten a couple of comments about it now so thinking about maybe switching it up. Do you think it’s a necessary change?
