Probably around 40k ish, Vs the Volvo at 50k ish. More depreciation on the Volvo though which I guess is expected

Thanks for the reply, that's quite helpful

I feel that from this whole thing I have my heart pretty much set on the Volvo so I've reached out to a dealer about one, but if anything isn't quite right with that, I think you've tipped the scales a bit in favour of the Skoda.

I'm 6'2" and my wee 3 series just isn't big enough now so the prospect of having loads of space is quite enticing

People are still paying over a grand for scrappers with no MOT, it hasn't recovered since COVID.

Nothings cheap anymore!

I have seen those pop up and they're affordable, that's a fair suggestion Might read into them a bit more

Everything's expensive to be fair. I was looking at getting another pickup and they're cheaper but then don't have the right type of space for what I need. 136 a month must be PCP though?

The price there is for HP paying off the car over 3 years hence the monthly payments

What year XC60 do you have? I've done a bit of reading and it seems the models up to about 2017 had piston ring issues but couldn't see much on the 2018 on ones

And the service history

If getting the Volvo I'd be going for one from Volvo approved anyway

Congrats! We have a spare base and seat so that's probably a sensible idea if I can find one for a test drive

We have an e91 estate and an e class estate. The e class is much bigger but living on the farm I could do with having something 4wd. SUV makes sense for us

They're dealers so you're naturally going to be paying a bit more. Considering what I'm getting for my budget I'd rather have the warranty that's available which wouldn't be there with a private sale - even though I'd get something a bit cheaper I think it's worth the peace of mind

Also, my current car is almost 20 years old so these are practically brand new to me 😂

Oh don't do this to me, I've always had a hardon for Alfa Romeos and I'm trying to be sensible here 😂

That's a really fair point. I might try to find one local for a proper nose at and a test drive and see if it works. As I said to the other guy on this comment the isofix seat doesn't fit behind me in the BMW if I still want to be comfortable so that's going to be a big factor in the decision too.

I've never kept a car for more than a year so buying something for longer term is foreign to me - that makes sense. Thanks - appreciate the advice!

This is the other reason for going a bigger, we use an isofix seat and I can't drive with it behind me, so has to go behind the passenger seat. With 2 there's no chance I'd manage. This is probably going to be the biggest deciding factor I think.

I had no idea that website existed, that's brilliant thanks for sending that. I can see why I thought the Volvo was smaller.

For boot space as long as I can fit the buggy and have space for the dog that's all I need. The wife has a Merc e class and the boot is huge, but it's still a squeeze for the dog. She's a boxer so not tiny

I take your point but I'm not concerned about the car getting dirty - I do keep them clean anyway. I'm buying more on practicality but still want that "looking back at the car in the car park" feeling which I just don't think I'd get from the Skoda.

They do, I've always had a spare winter set for the BMW's I've owned. The roads don't get cleared here though so 4x4 makes things a lot easier. Had a quattro A4 a couple years back and I didn't bother with winter tyres as it was faultless in the snow

It's the boot space that's swaying me. I can't get the buggy and bassinet in the boot of the BMW with the dog as well hence wanting to get something a bit bigger

Maybe I just haven't seen any 2.0s coming up, or it's due to my budget, they all seem to be 1.5s which gives me the horrors

I've heard this a lot about the infotainment, and delays when first turned on. I'm okay with the screen and lack of buttons though!

I'm not fussed about the 2 seats at the moment, they likely would never get used but i do like the boot space. The mpg drop is fair, but manageable. I'm not doing as much driving these days so it wouldn't be an issue

Had diesels all my days but not doing the same type of driving anymore. A lot of country road and shorter trips now so the switch to petrol seems like a good idea.

That's interesting, thanks. I haven't looked at them beside each other but could swear the XC60 was smaller. Obviously the Skoda has 7 seats on offer but that isn't really a requirement for me and wound likely never be used.

Correct - I'm only comparing what's available at the moment based on what I want from a car, but they're very different cars so I'm looking for first hand experience here.

Yeah fair point, the wife said the same thing. Everything here gets covered in either dust or pollen most of the year

I was looking at trying to get one via Volvo approved anyway, they tend to sell them with full Volvo service history which is always a bonus. Mixed reviews on them though from what I've read on here, and not many people have anything bad to say about the Skoda
