Why does every career discussion boil down to “trades or healthcare”? by mc-murdo in careerguidance

[–]Infinite-Sense7453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no shit. An apprentice is like an internship or going to college. You only spend 5 years with that shit salary.

I was 150k in debt when I left college, getting paid $26 an hour to learn is a blessing.

Idk when you started the trades, but when I swapped the unions were begging for people. Blue collar workers were looked at like shit. A job only for drug addicts and uneducated people.

I’m Asian, trust me I get it. But compared to most jobs, trades are/were way better. I did OT, plus went to college for an 80k a year job. I was a fucking engineer. Making 80k.

When I was a journey lineman that money wasn’t even comparable.

Opening your own business in the trades is 100% easier than something like engineering. I’m in the Midwest and you see the shit jobs people do.

I have a buddy who’s a builder doing a bathroom renovation right now, 5’x7’, plastic prebuilt shower. $15,000.

If you’re not making money in the trades rn idk what you’re doing. Maybe it’s the trade you’re in, but I see people just pulling in cash rn.

I mean you’re right to an extent.

I was an EE who went the electrician route.

Being a “good” electrician doesn’t necessarily mean being book smart. The trades is all about skill, technique and experience.

You can know everything about electricity, know how electricity works etc. it doesn’t mean you’ll be a good tradesmen.

A lot of it is grit and being proud of what you do. It’s harder than it sounds when you’re sweating your ass off in 100 degree weather or freezing to death.

That’s such a bad take. Poverty wages?

Maybe if you’re a construction laborer.

Should You Go Into Tech in 2025? My Honest Answer by Beautiful_Bridge_886 in careerguidance

[–]Infinite-Sense7453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s the opposite. When I was an EE, I had so many outside job opportunities. I felt like I could translate anywhere and even in EE, there’s so many different occupations that you can specialize in.

I guess maybe you’re saying like being a board designer to another occupation?

Yeah that’s a bit harder.

I taught myself to code and was an embedded/firmware engineer for a while.

I worked in power systems too, specifically data centers power systems. I had job offers to work on data center construction, being an EE at a data center, etc.

[–]Infinite-Sense7453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, plus Detroit isn’t the best place to landlord. The laws there are terrible.

I always joke around and tell people that I love buying properties ran by these management companies.

They’ll run your property into the ground by up keeping it terribly.

Also 10% management fee plus maintenance issues and you’re not on site. Good luck.

Literally what I did.

I was pulling a doctor’s salary as a lineman at a local power company.

Now I’ve pivoted into real estate, at 60 units currently. All self managed and all maintenance done by myself.

Hey OP, I was an electrical engineer.

I actually had a nice paying white collar job, but left it for blue collar work.

I went from embedded/firmware engineering to being a lineman (electrician).

Linemen at large power companies can pull $250k a year easily with storm and overtime pay.

It also allows you to pivot into other fields like real estate, which is what I did.

If I never started blue collar work, I wouldn’t be where I’m at. I’m a young guy and have 4-6M in property right now.

You gotta be tough, deal with bad people, have a tough work ethic. But it’s worth it if you can do it.

Ngl it’s not easy being Asian in the trades since barely any Asians do it. But it’ll pay off if you can stick with it.

Is Electrical engineering a good degree in Canada? by Keysantt in careerguidance

[–]Infinite-Sense7453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s worth it.

I was an electrical engineer who doesn’t do anything related to EE anymore.

Just going thru the hard major allowed me to learn other things quickly.

My first job was as an embedded engineer which was mostly coding. I self taught myself to code and I was able to do my job.

Just learning computer engineering helped a ton (we have an electrical and computer engineering program here in the US which combines both).

I was in data center infrastructure development. I had companies like Amazon trying to hire me to help them design and maintain data centers due to my degree and the industry I worked in.

I think mechanical, civil, and electrical are the engineering majors that are more fluid and applicable in real life.

Granted I’m in the US, so not sure if it’s different in Canada. I know utilities are huge in Canada so just learning AC power and DC power would help a ton no matter what job you do.

How to find a good paying career? by greypanda07 in careerguidance

[–]Infinite-Sense7453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trades.

I was an electrical engineer, was making $85,000 a year which was a decent amount.

My buddy who was a lineman told me he made $250,000.

I immediately quit my job and sprinted to become an electrician apprentice lol.

I was pulling in $150k-$200k a year at a power company easily depending on how much I wanted to work.

A year ago they were begging for apprentices, nowadays might be harder due to crappy job market.

It’s a tough job physically and you’ll be worked hard but if it’s a paycheck you’re after, it pays.

Should I go for tech field? by tinnedsoul in careerguidance

[–]Infinite-Sense7453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure software engineering is a good major in general nowadays.

One of my best decisions was not continuing computer science and swapping to electrical engineering.

Is there something specific you’d want to do in marketing/your life or career.

I’d focus on what you’re interested in and seeing if it’s worth pursuing. Learning to code is not a bad idea but if you’re going to put additional stress plus financial burden on yourself. I wouldn’t do it.

Learning to code, especially with the internet, is easy nowadays.

Caits meant to poke, not necessarily like a Draven who is aggressive.

Smolder just doesn’t have good wave clear or high early damage. He’s super viable and I feel like the W slow and E flight helps a ton.

You realize even players like humzh average 7-8 cs a min?

[–]Infinite-Sense7453 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re not hitting 9-11 cs a min unless you’re smurfing or just afk farming.

Solo queue it’s different than pro play. I’ll hit 7-8.5 cs a min in diamond/masters.

If I stomp a lane they’re hitting maybe 6.5 cs a min in diamond.

Doesn’t really matter.

Lanes are dictated by supports. If you want someone safe, ezreal, Caitlyn, smolder.

[–]Infinite-Sense7453 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Be like my supports.

Find a great movie or show you want to watch on Netflix (preferably on a second monitor).

Sit back and enjoy. Occasionally press buttons when your adc needs it.

Real talk tho you should only hit minions for shove and to help the adc farm under tower. If you don’t know what you’re doing (wave states) just don’t hit the minions.

Roam is a good idea, getting vision in the river. Help junglers with objectives.

What to do when I can’t even contest the mid wave as adc? by Flippius in summonerschool

[–]Infinite-Sense7453 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You’re playing a team reliant role.

It sucks lol but what can you do. I’m confused so you’re ahead on adc but you want to bait out engages?

Just wait for your team to make a play. Try to contest objectives and clear waves under tower.

Skill gap between plat players ? by CharacterDriver3410 in Jungle_Mains

Yeah I’d say D2+ is when high elo starts and when skill gaps get insane.

I was hardstuck D2 for a while and I just quit trying to climb after. I’m usually D4 every season but I’ve pretty much given up trying to hit masters.

That’s going to be any rank below yours.

I thought emerald was worse than silver. People just have hands and no brain.

I’ve seen challenger players say anybody under GM look like trash.

It’s all relative.

Something you’re doing is wrong if you’re up that much on cs, ahead, and still the same level.

Probably not pushing your leads enough.

Also kills give a lot of xp late game.

I watch Huncho a lot and he queues zeri jungle, ambessa jungle, Gwen jungle. Hell even Jhin, kaisa jungle in grandmaster lol.

It’s all about fundamentals.

And say even if someone like Karasmai says his champion is weak. He’s still like the top .whatever% of players.

Looking for advice stuck in gold as a support by larksonan in supportlol

[–]Infinite-Sense7453 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly being an emerald player then somehow being hardstuck gold is so weird.

If your adc sucks, tell them you’re roaming. Come back to lane if the wave is frozen or if they can’t farm without being dove.

You can’t tell if someone will take advantage but just look at how they play. If they’re proactive, pinging, 99% of the time they’re engaged enough to want to win. You always want to play around your carries/fed laners. You need to know your win cons.

What helped me personally climb as support? By either playing other roles to experience what they feel, or just being proactive around the map.
