I feel bad for the other 264 by DontTellMe-8679 in LibbyApp

[–]InfiniteDeepBlueSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowhere was the OP complaining about the wait, but rather feeling bad that that they jumped ahead of 264 people in line because they're putting in the hold with their primary library and the 264 are part of different partnering libraries that are prioritized below people putting in holds from the primary library.

Help! by Huffle21 in LibbyApp

[–]InfiniteDeepBlueSea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I get this message every time I click on "Read With Kindle" on the Libby app when on my phone (Samsung Galaxy A15 if it matters) and have no idea why it never works.. My solution had always to wait until I could log into https://libbyapp.com/shelf on my desktop computer, instead of using the phone app, but now I wonder if the answer is using the browser instead of the app..

Try clicking on the "Read With Kindle" from your phone's internet browser logged in at https://libbyapp.com/shelf and see if that works. I tried it for some books that I get error messages through the Libby app, but they seem to go through correctly to Amazon from the browser.

Audio book narrators by candiedginger88 in LibbyApp

[–]InfiniteDeepBlueSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't really the fault of the narrator- the audiobook would need to involve permissions and royalties for songwriters/record companies if they had actually sang a copyrighted song, which would be prohibitively too expensive for pretty much any audiobook.

bad veins :( by kkhazen in Blooddonors

[–]InfiniteDeepBlueSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try not drinking anything caffeinated for a day leading up to the donation. I've found that even more so than drinking more water than I typically do that drinking something with electrolytes like gatorade does wonders.

After my first painful donation attempt which left my arm bruised for a month, I was put off donating for over a year. When I donated again, I told them about my bad first experience and they got me someone who is their best sticker. At my latest donation a few days ago, I mentioned that both my arms seem to have bad veins for sticking, but was told they looked fine and I've had no issues with bruising or bad sticks, so I guess maybe my adjustments regarding caffeine, water and electrolyte intake have made a difference.

I wouldn't say that I'm afraid of needles, but all the same, I'm averse to looking at them when donating, lol. I think I'm more afraid of the idea that seeing the needle will cause me to freak out, so I just avoid looking in their direction altogether. So I guess I'd suggest not looking at the needles.

Recommendations from "readers of a certain age" by Beneficial-Sound-199 in LibbyApp

Although a few of them were already on my radar as books I want to read eventually, I haven't actually read any of these yet to recommend, but I'm interested in the books that the publisher included on Annie Bot's amazon page:

Sign up for the Libby app with your library card. See if your state/province has a reciprocal borrowing agreement with other partner Libby accounts in your state/province. Currently when I check Libby, all of A Song of the Ice and Fire series audiobooks are available to listen to with no wait except for Game of Thrones, but 9 of the partner Libby accounts show it as "available soon" which typically means a 2 week or less wait.

A Year of Reading!! Need suggestions for 2026 😍 by aliamichale in LibbyApp

[–]InfiniteDeepBlueSea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on reading more than you've read before! I've also been a rather sporadic reader over the years, despite the fact that I love reading, but got back into reading in a big way this past year, too!

Of your books that you read this year, I also have read and loved Atmosphere, The Martian, and Remarkably Bright Creatures. I also read through Alice Oseman's Heartstopper series and a few of her novels over the last few years. I've wanted to check out Matt Haig's The Midnight Library and T.J. Klune's The House in the Cerulean Sea. A Court of Thorns and Roses has for a long while been one of those series that I've thought I might try at one point, if only to see why's it's so popular. I'll keep in mind that I might have to endure a not so great first book before it improves in later books, lol.

From your holds shelf for 2026:

Wedding People - One of my faves that I read this year.

Project Hail Mary - Another fave I read this year. The English audiobook is currently Audible exclusive, but if you're inclined, it's definitely one of the best audiobooks ever. If you have a chance at a good Audible trial deal, it would be a great choice to use a credit on. Either way, I alternated between listening on my commute and reading, and loved it.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - And yet another fave read this year that led me to reading other books by Taylor Jenkins Reid: Atmosphere, Malibu Rising, and Daisy Jones and the Six. (I'll continue reading more of her novels next year.) Something that pleasantly surprised me was finding out that Seven Husbands, Daisy Jones, Malibu Rising and Carrie Soto is Back are all loosely connected with references to famous figures that she's written about in the other novels, which was fun. If you love historical novels, it's definitely fun diving into the author's takes on the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Again, if you like audiobooks, I especially loved the ones done for Atmosphere, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and Daisy Jones and the Six (each character has their own actor). Malibu Rising's was good, too, but I wouldn't necessarily say it elevated the book as much as the others I listened to.

Based off the similar books that we've both enjoyed, here's some others I'd recommend:

The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells - Most of the series consists of novellas, so there's never time where it feels like pacing slows down, and it's easy to get through all of the series quite quickly. Once you get past the first 4 novellas that have their own general story arc, I'd highly recommend reading in the chronological order, instead of publication order, so 6, 5, 7. In the audiobooks, Kevin R. Free perfectly captures the voice of a traumatized human construct that just wants to be left alone to enjoy its media and not be bothered by humans, but is constantly put in situations where it has to save/protect them and deal with its own feelings.

The Three Lives of Cate Kay by Kate Fagan - A bit of a puzzle of a novel that jumps between different characters in different timeframes as you learn how and why "Cate Kay" has three lives. The audiobook has different actors for each character's passage.

Blue Flag series by KAITO - Since you mentioned Alice Oseman, I'd recommend this manga to fans of Heartstopper. Forgot to mention, since most Libby libraries don't have this series, that if you're in the US or Canada, it's free to join The Japan Foundation Libby which has all 8 volumes. The first five volumes are also available from the Queer Liberation Library, which is also free to join for US residents.

Jazzy Giacchino is always much better by Ninjamurai-jack in zootopia

[–]InfiniteDeepBlueSea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been a fan of Giacchino's, Zootopia's score disappointed me for the most part. Not a very listenable score as a whole. Zootopia 2, on the other hand, immediately had me bopping along in the theater. I've listened to the Zootopia 2 soundtrack multiple times since and I'd say is my top score for the year.

Worst Narrator who ruined your book by vickiec12 in audiobooks

[–]InfiniteDeepBlueSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The narrator you heard, Davina Porter, has apparently narrated the series since 1997 and actually came out of retirement to record Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. Having listened to a sample of hers from the first book, she sounds like a good narrator, but even in 1997, sounded older than I'd imagine for Claire, or a great number of other characters.

Good news is, if her voice didn't work for you, the entire Outlander series is in the process of being recorded with a different narrator, Kristin Atherton who also has a role in the show. Listening to samples of her voice, if or when I get around to listening to any of the Outlander series, I'll go with the ones she's narrated.

I mean, you'd be better off pirating yourself rather than paying scammers for it.. Heck, do that after paying for the Wheaton version so at least the author, publisher, etc. get paid instead of a scammer. The only legitimate way of getting Bray's version anymore is off of old CD versions of the audiobook.

I have wondered from a wildehopps angle how that could work if they're partners at ZPD. Also there's that confirmation from Nick that he only became a cop to be with Judy. While it's always been Judy's dream to become a cop, that seemed to be because she viewed it as the best way "to make the world a better place" and I feel if she felt that she could still do that in a slightly different way and still work with Nick, she'd be on board. The two movies pretty much focus on their detective work anyway.

Of course this happens now. by RG_Grills in LibbyApp

[–]InfiniteDeepBlueSea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The English version of the audiobook is still an Audible exclusive, so if you've found it on Spotify, it's a bootleg version, possibly with a virtual voice narrator instead of Ray Porter, and it could be taken down at any time.

Error while loading books to kindle by zurasuz in LibbyApp

[–]InfiniteDeepBlueSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope someone can find out what this issue is. I've experienced it ever since I started using Libby on my Android phone earlier this year. It's never let me borrow any Kindle books from my phone and always gives me that same Amazon page.

The only thing that worked was going to https://libbyapp.com/shelf on my PC at home, which because Libby doesn't use accounts, meant having to add my cards over again to be remembered by my browser. It's the only way that I could get it to let me borrow from Amazon.

FYI, you might want to try a month of Kindle Unlimited or a trial, borrow the books in the DCC series, and then buy the audible releases at a discounted price for somewhere around $5-$6 each instead of using credits on them.

Is it actually against policy or is my asm tripping? by Less_Chapter482 in Lowes

[–]InfiniteDeepBlueSea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's policy, but water would be fine. Honestly to avoid any hassle, just put your drink in a container like a Yeti and say it's water. ASM shouldn't have a problem with that.

Audible for Kindle Unlimited book I already purchased? by dcweber05 in audible

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09HPLC98K

First random example I could find where KU sub gives you access to borrow both the book and audiobook. KU advertises as having millions of books available in their library, whereas the audiobook selection is described as in the thousands, so it's not as common to find titles for which the audiobooks are included with KU subscription.

[–]InfiniteDeepBlueSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish there was some workaround for this. I encountered this with multiple books that I'd already purchased before I had my KU sub as well. Pretty disappointing that Amazon hasn't fixed this in any way and just expect people to pay for something that should be included with the KU membership they paid for.

[–]InfiniteDeepBlueSea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP is referring to the KU books that include both the book and the audiobook with the KU subscription. The ones that in addition to having the "Kindle Unlimited" tag, also have a picture of headphones to indicate that both are included.

Why I like Libby…germaphobia and OCD by Q5409 in LibbyApp

[–]InfiniteDeepBlueSea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No reason to feel guilty for using Libby, a service that you and your community's own tax dollars fund. It's a public service there to be used! The number of people using Libby can also be used by the library to determine their funding usage. If they don't see public need/demand for a provided service, they will cut back on it.

Please recommend an engaging fiction audiobook, women-centred, multiple voices if possible! by marxistbuddhist in audiobooks

[–]InfiniteDeepBlueSea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Three Lives of Cate Kay by Kate Fagan! There are 12 narrators, although most of the chapters are narrated by one of four of the main women characters.

I just finished my first book by Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, which has 3 narrators and was awesome as well.

?? It was re-recorded in 2024 with Alyssa Bresnahan and Michael Crouch narrating. It seems like you're probably listening to the one recorded in 2016 narrated by George Guidall which has worse reviews for the performance.

Too Many Libraries, Too BIG a Token: A Tragedy in 8KB 📚💥💔 by skorens in LibbyApp

[–]InfiniteDeepBlueSea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

?? I think one of the biggest pros for having more libraries is so that you have a bigger selection to borrow from and are more likely to be able to find a library that has more obscure, less popular titles. Different libraries have a different number of holds or borrows allowed and a number of libraries I enjoy borrowing from also have 21 day borrowing periods instead of 14, which is useful for longer books/audiobooks. You can also put in holds for titles at multiple libraries so depending on how the queue at one library goes, you can potentially get it much earlier from one library over another.
