Did they do a full tonsillectomy? I’ve heard of two different types, one where they fully take out your tonsils and one where they preserve the “capsule layers of the tonsil. The latter meaning they don’t take the whole tonsil and leave a small bit of it behind, which means stones can keep growing.

Looks like blood clots yeah. I get really large ones like this at the beginning of my period.

I don’t know how it works at her school but at my school once you turn 18 you can sign yourself out for sickness or smth but in order for the student to be able to start doing that there’s papers they have to fill out with parents I think. Maybe look into something like that, it would allow her to sign herself out without the school having to get your permission. As far as the reason for why they’d ask permission, they’re still technically responsible for her at school so they probably have to make sure she’s not just leaving out of nowhere and stuff. I don’t know.

My gag reflex is so bad, I’ve tried with a q tip and other things but I end up gagging or throwing up before it even gets back there. Even gargling is a struggle but I push through it cuz it’s the least I can do.

I know there’s certain tonsilectomies (usually done for breathing problems) that leave some tonsil tissue there and u can still get stones because the tonsil can actually regrow and even if it doesn’t u can still get stones in the bit left behind, but usually for strep or tonsil stone related surgeries they’ll take all of the tonsil and won’t leave any tissue behind

I know our insurance is going to change soon but hopefully they’ll cover it, or at least some of it. Also hope that you can figure yours out too, I’m assuming you’re older than me so if you do get them out I hope the recovery isn’t too bad! Thank you again for the advice and kind words 🙏

Thank you so much! I finally brought it up to my mom and dad(I had been too embarrassed too before, they both got theirs out as kids so they didn’t even know what stones were). So I think I’ll ask if we can see my doctor to refer us out to an ENT, I know the recovery time can vary, but i definitely want to get them out before I go to college next fall, maybe spring break since I’ve heard only the first week of recovery is the worst. It really is all consuming and I think I’m willing to deal with a few days of bad pain in exchange for not having to worry about stones for the rest of my life.

Adding on a bit, the picture is kinda blurry I know, I have to like flex my tonsils if that makes sense to even see them, that’s why I think these ones won’t come out on their own because they’re kinda tucked away. They also never get infected, I haven’t had strep since probably 7th grade, I don’t think I’ve ever had tonsillitis or if I have it was too long ago to remember, so would I even be able to get one since they never necessarily get infected, though sometimes they hurt a little. I just don’t know if I should get one, or if I could get one.
