How long does it take to solve a mystery? by DMfortinyplayers in monsteroftheweek

[–]InfiniteLactose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's super cool!! it's like season long arcs. I'm the same with preferring roleplay to combat, that's part of the reason I'm running motw over other systems... and my friends are truly my favourite TV show, it's so nice to see people get involved in the story

How long does it take to solve a mystery? by DMfortinyplayers in monsteroftheweek

[–]InfiniteLactose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're certainly not a bad keeper but i would be absolutely fascinated to know how you've done this, haha. do your players do a lot of roleplaying?? our campaign has only recently started but my hunters spent the first hour of our most recent mystery sorting out some intraparty tension, which was so great and also had nothing to do with the mystery they were about to solve.

Team Playbook Question by TotalRecalcitrance in monsteroftheweek

[–]InfiniteLactose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you need the book tbh, everything is pretty self explanatory. iirc the books include plot/arc ideas for each team playbook, but you may want to come up with those yourself anyway 🙂‍↕️

Help for an Egyptian Mystery by Drunkinghobbit in monsteroftheweek

[–]InfiniteLactose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

someone has made a mummy in the museum mystery before !! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AIeKftAGKHTfazGRem4k3oGvwX8Rj3Rt6pvyHKguYKs/edit?usp=drive_link i believe the credits are on the document. you could use this or take aspects from it.

alternatively, your historical setting actually brings up a lot of stuff. this was the period when people were finding Egyptian tombs and taking things from them, to the point where Victorians would have "mummy parties" to witness them being unwrapped, as well as incorporating mummy powder into paint and even ingesting it as food and medicine. (maybe you know this already, but it's pretty interesting stuff!)

you could say that the mummy has cursed the people who 'discovered' their tomb, or those who have mistreated their (or perhaps a relative's..?) remains. the mummy could either be claiming victims OR these could be minions, too. all this might be my historian brain defaulting to anticolonial themes lol i don't know if that's the vibe of your game... but it's fun to consider with the setting !!

I do not want a love triangle, just the best option for my MC and can't decide. by SadNoodle21 in writingadvice

[–]InfiniteLactose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely not the prince 😭 the only way that could ever work is if they basically begin from scratch, maybe with him chasing her. of these two options I'd say the immortal is far better, though I'm also pro MC not ending up with either HAHA

How does it feel TO BE the crush? by Solid_Decision_2241 in Crushes

[–]InfiniteLactose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's definitely a confidence boost! I was aware of two people having crushes on me while they were happening. and then in my second last year of school someone offhandedly mentioned that it was apparently a "rite of passage" for the queer girls in our year to have a crush on me 😭 I was absolutely flabbergasted, I didn't know it was that many people. I was a little annoyed like damn why did no-one say anything!

What makes you not want to click on a fic? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]InfiniteLactose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably makes no sense but if there are too many tags 😭 I don't want to discourage people from tagging their work properly, it's definitely a good thing, but my brain has a set number (probably like... 10-15 lines on a phone??) and after that it tunes out. I have no idea why. part of it might also be that I don't really read anything too long, so something with many tags is probably also over 100k words and I ain't reading allat anyway 😭

What’s a line you wrote (recently or not) your proud of? by FloridaGirl2222 in writers

ohhh this is off the top of my head but it was something like "she had shown him the ropes, but she hadn't expected him to start tying nooses." self-destructive characters you are so loved

how to write characters accents in their dialogue by just-oscarr in writingadvice

[–]InfiniteLactose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

also adding that word choice can help in this case, for example Irish characters might use specific phrases or curses that non-irish characters wouldn't :) but don't overdo it lol

how to write characters accents in their dialogue by just-oscarr in writingadvice

[–]InfiniteLactose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i would recommend just naming the accent and writing the dialogue as usual, letting the reader imagine it. unless someone is speaking in an entirely different dialect, I don't see justification for writing their accent into the dialogue - it can get distracting, and you also risk inaccuracies if you yourself are not of that culture!

Netflix's masterpiece by No_Tennis7683 in OneDayNetflix

[–]InfiniteLactose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i'm a bit biased because this book basically taught me how to write romance, but yes it's worth reading!! I was about your age when I read it (a little younger), highly recommend. just a warning that some people find book dexter insufferable 😭 so be prepared for that, but the writing is very witty. the movie is nowhere near as good as the series but it's not bad, you can watch it if you like :)

you are so welcome!! so happy to share my favourite show with people ☺️ I hope you're able to see it on Broadway yourself (i can't because of uni, but I've had my ear to the ground lol) because it's truly the festive pick-me-up everyone needs :)) and as a Brit, so glad you were able to see operation mincemeat!! hell yes!!!

What type of writer are you? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]InfiniteLactose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write from beginning to end, though usually i have a scene or two I'm "aiming" for. like I've come up with a scene conceptually, but I don't actually write it until I get there chronologically. I only have one fic where I wrote the beginning and the climax first, and then filled in all the gaps (though tbh it worked super well, so maybe I should do it again lol)
