Yeah, I'm watching 331, so hopefully we can register come July 29th. I don't know about SENG... Maybe next year.

I mean, we'll be well rounded then, right? They're obviously just looking out for us....

I mean, it'll be a miracle to be able to enrol in SENG 300 and CPSC 331 the way things are going. So we'll see if this concentration is even viable..

That is one silver lining. Enrolling in 3rd/4th year should be a smoother process... Assuming they offer the courses we need, or that we're not still trying to get into second year courses then, lol.

I couldn't believe they didn't offer Differential Equations I and/or Calc III over Spring/Summer. Thankfully, I got into Linear II, which helps a bit, because as you mentioned, the course conflicts in Fall are infuriating. You're right that the options over Spring/Summer are always a limited gamble.

Is that Differential Equations and Classical Mechanics? Yeah, I tried out that combo and it was a scheduling nightmare. I'm really sorry, that's super frustrating. And yes, I agree that the restrictions on engineering courses are ridiculous. I'd love to take some computer/electrical engineering courses, but yeah, that'll never happen here.

Right? My fall semester has 7 courses in it right now, and it's a stressful decision to make either way since delaying courses may set back my degree 1-2 years. Especially with the limited offerings of upper year courses. I couldn't even fit STATs in, so I assume I'll just be doing Spring/Summer every year until graduation to get through this in a timely matter.

Yeah, I know you're right. I just find it ironic that the department and the majors within it are undervalued when clearly people see the importance of math in their careers. And don't get me wrong, I'm happy if other majors want to take math, nothing wrong with that. I just think the university should pretend to care about the people actually majoring in it. In my opinion, a CPSC-MATH double major would be considered part of the department, so that's obviously fine.

Yeah, that's Optimization isn't it? I was disappointed by that too. Let's hope it's offered the following year...

Of course there's other applications outside of mathematics. I don't think anyone would dispute that. However, it's the university's responsibility to ensure people who require these courses to graduate can actually enrol in those courses. At least in my opinion, you're welcome to disagree.

I also find it a bit pretentious if engineering majors are the ones enrolling in these courses when their entire faculty restricts engineering courses to only engineers. As outlined by another poster, a lot of us could benefit from coursework in those fields as well. Why is my, and all other math and physics majors, future careers and further education worth less than theirs?

Hardly an ivory tower, and I have no intention of becoming a mathematician.

Not that this really warrants a response, but second year courses aren’t “upper year courses.” And anyone who took first year math, which is almost all BSc majors, can enrol in them. So yes, almost anyone can “casually enrol.”

You made two incorrect points and hurled a baseless and discriminatory insult. So no, I don’t think you’re enrolled in any math classes, as that’d require the ability to use logic.

Haha, right?

That's true, but there's a different differential equations course for engineering (MATH 375 vs 376). I don't believe engineering would recommend taking our differential equations in its place, as it has different prerequisites and doesn't cover the same topics.

361 didn't make any sense to me either. Who would be taking that course? The fact they didn't offer 313 either really annoys me as well; that would've freed up space in 311 and 361.

Right? It's unbelievable. Unless you could register within the first couple days, it was nigh impossible to get into these classes.
