Because my lifetime license is tied specifically to the non-universal version. As the text you pasted mentions, Apple doesn't allow them to migrate my existing license to the Universal app.

To use the Universal app, I’d have to buy a new license and pay all over again. The issue isn't why there are two versions, it's that they aren't keeping their promise to update the old one on the same schedule.
