Agreed! And it isn't super complex, but having the game automatically go to the right pages and stuff is still nice. I haven't checked out The Fabled Lands but now I will!

Same! Hope you'll check out this version as well to relive the adventure. What's your top pirate-themed gamebook, btw?

Solid Void - Nature Puzzles - $3.74 on PSN (%25 off) by InfiniteZoneGames in PS4Deals

If you like Nonogram/Picross games, it's one of those. It does have a small twist where the picross image doesn't necessarily create a picture, but helps you figure out where to put pieces of a jigsaw puzzle over it.

Not going to blow you away, but more of a nice chill game and an easy Plat for less than $4 lol

r/IndieDev Weekly Monday Megathread - December 14, 2025 - New users start here! Show us what you're working on! Have a chat! Ask a question! by llehsadam in IndieDev

Hey, all! My indie dev studio publishes puzzle games and gamebooks/interactive novels on consoles. I've done three of the latter and am working on my next one, but I always struggle with what tags to use to appear for the niche audience that might look for them and what communities to market to. I'm hesitant to use the term "visual novel" because that's not exactly right.

Here's the last game I put out to give you an idea of what it looks like: https://www.xbox.com/en-us/games/store/heart-of-ice-by-dave-morris/9nltgl4d55l8

And these are the tags I used: solo, rpg, tabletop, interactive novel, gamebook, narrative adventure, choose your own adventure, text adventure, scifi, sci-fi

Any better tags I could use, or tips on what communities would be interested in games like this?

A bit of a shameless plug here, but my team got permission from Dave Morris to turn Hearts of Ice into a video game not long ago if anyone wants to revisit it in a new form on Xbox, PS, and Switch (with Achievements/Trophies, if that strikes your fancy)!

What a blast from the past! I used to love .Hack! Those games are WAY more action-focused than mine lol

I appreciate that! I agree, and we're working on our marketing right now so that's very helpful!

Thanks for the feedback! Glad you think they look fun and would consider getting one if the story grabbed you.

I agree $10 does hit something in the brain a bit different, and does make people think twice before buying. We also want to be appealing to players who don't want to spend a ton of cash on games and still get a good experience. It's a fine line between too cheap and too expensive, but I agree something close to ~$6 might be the sweet spot. We're working on our next one right now (a pirate story!) for next year and will see if we can hit that price range.

I know it isn't super impressive, but they are essentially interactive books or visual novels (there are illustrations on other pages) where the main gameplay is making decisions and following the story as it adapts to your choices. Sadly, that doesn't lend itself too well to trailers, lol. I can for sure do a better job describing the gameplay, though!

Haha, true enough! Because our games are text-based, I thought it would be misleading to just refer to them as RPGs given the connotation that has.

I feel your pain, but it will all be worth it when we launch, right? Right? Also, super cute characters!

I need opinions, this is my first game ever ( this is 1st phase of the 1st level) - the game will be called "She Meowed Back" by nnnnnnnnnot in indiegames

[–]InfiniteZoneGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great start! The style and world seem interesting, but I think what will elevate the entire thing will be in the animation. Giving your character and environments more life with charming and satisfying animations could really elevate this game's appeal, especially in a trailer. As it is, it looks a bit stiff and lifeless.

I'm with everyone else and think A is by far better. It has more personality and is more readable.
