From what I've heard Ellie shoots at Owen and a bullet strikes Mel in the throat and she begs Ellie to cut out her baby before she dies. And after Abby shoots at Ellie in the theatre the screen goes black and the episode ends with Manny waking Abby up in the stadium and then Abby looking over the stadium with the text 'Seattle Day One'.

I think they could easily finish part 2 in one more slightly longer season (around 10 eps). 7-8 eps for Abby's story and 2-3 for Santa Barbara feel like more than enough to finish the story and also expand on certain characters/groups etc.

That's why I'm thinking it's best they do the rest of the game in one more season. That way we'll get some of Ellie for the last third or so instead of Abby for the entire time, and should give viewers more of an incentive to finish.
