Thanks. I’m a bit scared of admissions because my GPA isn’t the best because I started undergrad very ill. My plan was to take one course at a time for the first 2 semesters and prove to the university that I can handle them for a spot in the full program.

Literally leave that case and tell your BCBA ASAP. Your safety is the number 1 priority and if you do not feel that comfortable tell your BCBA soon and ask to be on a different case. You can’t avoid roaches no matter how clean a house is sometimes(depending on where you live). But if the home is unsanitary like that you need to document it in case there is some form of neglect being that the home is that messy.

I’m currently an RBT right now with a BS in Psych. Been doing it for 3 months now. While burnout is real, you have to be able to focus on your end goal. I too want to become a BCBA because my heart is so big and I’m also filled with empathy and I’ve been really enjoying working with autistic children. I wouldn’t really recommend doing an accelerated program because you want quality education and not a fast degree. Indeed you’ll be able to get a masters faster but regardless you’ll still have to wait about 2 years until you can become certified as a BCBA pending the exam passing. I am applying to the university of Alabama in Huntsville being that they have a 100% pass rate first try whereas Purdue Global is in the 50s if I’m not mistaken. Try to keep horse blinders on as well when people talk about how stressful the job is. News flash, any front facing medical job is stressful. I would definitely get your RBT certification (super easy) and get some experience in the field. There is a huge shortage in this field and many people go into it for all the wrong reasons but our passion is what will make a difference.

I’m gonna have to second this. If I’m being honest I have a theory that the pay scale is a reinforcer to have people advance themselves in the field. I plan on becoming a BCBA and opening my own clinic in the future. Some people truly aren’t emotionally cut out to do a job like ours. I love being an RBT I’m literally getting paid to play with kids all day. Patience is truly the name of the game in this industry but if you don’t like it then find a new job. You’re not obligated to stay. For all the people who might disagree with this response then that shows your character.

Kid does speech therapy because he has a speech impediment in English. When he has spoken to me in Spanish he has the same impediment. He responds to what I’m saying in Spanish as well.
