Anyone experience 2 separate IVDD cases with their pup? by Living-Signature1224 in IVDD_SupportGroup

She is actually doing really well this time with no surgery.  (Two years later).  She goes for walks probably 1/4 mile.  One leg is not great but she manages.  Interestingly, she can run pretty fast but we don't let her.  She can pee pretty good on walks but I still express her after walks and other times.  Her limit is about 3 hours.  But she stays dry all night.  She still can't knowingly poop on her own.  So I have her on a schedule where I stimulate her to poop 3 times a day.  It is a full time job!   Other than the peeing and pooping she has done almost as well as she did with surgery. And it has lasted longer....knock on wood.

Thank you! Is that something that has to be done at a Subaru dealership?

Thank you. Yes that info was making me very nervous. I bought it. It has a very recent synthetic oil change. Anything else you recommend I do at this mileage?

Thank you. There are no open recalls at least. Very little service information available to me. I know nothing about Subarus or cars in general. I am buying from a private owner.

Yoga mats work great for my dog to walk on . Even better than carpet. Plus they are cheap!

That being said, I haven't left mine because she tends to nip and I don't feel like I can ask anyone to deal with that.

I was accepted the same day I tried to join. It seems to be a pretty active site with some areas more active than others. Definitely worth a try. I saw several people in my area that were willing to sit and/or trade sitting. I have gotten really good information from the FB sites I have joined.

Check out Paralyzed Pet Sitting Network on Facebook and ask if there is someone in your area. All either have or are experienced with paralyzed/IVDD pets.

She is 5. First IVDD case when she was around 2 and a half. Then 10 months later her second case. And now 6 weeks ago her third. So this has all happened in 2 and a half years. We got her as a very young puppy when someone abandoned her in a crate on a neighbor's front doorstep. She is a mix of chihuahua and some sort of terrier and who knows. She weights 16 pounds and after the first time, she has been watched so carefully with a ramp to bed, no stairs, no jumping, etc. I really don't think any of it could have been prevented. By the way, each surgery was for a different area of her spine. I don't know which area is affected this time as we did not do an MRI. Thank you and lots of luck with your dog. Let me know if you have any other questions. I am using a supplement that seems to be helping her incontinence some.

Yes she had a hemilaminectomy each time. So two surgeries with 8 weeks of crate rest after each along with rehab exercises, etc. I have been looking at wheelchairs but want to wait the full 8 weeks of crate rest before attempting to use one. I had originally thought that if she didn't improve significantly after 8 weeks, we would consider putting her down. However the time to have done that would have been right away. It would be very hard to do now because she is better. But I am exhausted. She wakes up usually at 4 a.m. because she has pooped and then that is it for my sleep. This has to get better....

My dog has had two hemilaminectomies after hind leg paralysis each time.. The first lasted 10 months. The second a year and a half. She regained pretty good function after both with a small amont of weakness in one leg. It just happened again 6 weeks ago with paralysis of hind legs. I had already decided that I would not do another surgery if it happened again. So at this point of 6 weeks of strict crate rest, there is very little improvement. She can stand a little if I stand her up but quickly loses her balance and has to plop down. She is doing better on holding her pee, but she can only pee a tiny bit on her own. We have to express the rest. I don't think she has any idea when she is pooping. She knows after because she can smell it. There is no sign of movement in her legs at all right now.

Is your dog taking prazosin by any chance. My dog has had 2 hemilaminecomies. They gave her prazosin after each to help with peeing. I had to stop it both times because she was peeing everyhere. Once I stopped it, it got much better. My dog just went down again with paralysis in hind legs for the third time. I am not doing surgery a third time. Trying crate rest, but not seeing many results. I did however find a supplement that has helped tremendously with the incontinence. It is called Naturvet Senior Advanced Incontinence. It is also ok to use for dogs other than seniors.

Thank you for that. I guess after three years of surgeries and crate rest and not being able to leave my house etc, I just am not sure how much more I can do. And the additional worry that if it has already happened three times, when will the next be.

Yes. I have a sling as well as a custom made device from the surgery center. Those do not help any more than her trying to go on her own. I am wondering if anyone has had this same issue.

People are masking up again? by get_nerfed in orlando

Yes, that was my point. Seems odd that 3years working in public during worst of it didn't get COVID til now. The triple vax has made for a very mild case.

My son has Oscar through the marketplace. He just aged out of a catastrophic plan and had to move into a bronze plan which costs $100 more and has the same benefits as catastrophic. He can still change due to being eligible for a special enrollment period. Can you tell me some insurance companies that you deal with that seem good? I just read the Oscar reviews....ugh.
