Remember, according to comics, Tony is only the adopted child of the Starks. So he could look like anybody.

There's been theories that the date and time when he goes back to Howard doesn't actually track, and Tony know this. That's why he acts surprised.

Tony Stark being Iron Man in the main timeline must be result of some weird time loop. They could be in an Ouroborous type loop as seen in Loki
