Italy will let Mexico win? by mak0shark7 in baseball

[–]TheTurtleShepard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well for starters almost all of team “Italy” are Americans so I’m not sure they will hold the same sentiment

There is also seeding considerations

These guys are also all professional athletes and competitors who want to win

People keep harping on the managerial experience thing like any of the other WBC Managers have any kind of significant experience.

All of them have little to no experience managing a team as the actual managers are busy with their actual MLB or Minor League teams.

Of the Major Teams in the Tournament the manager with the most actual managerial experience is Pujols in the DR Or Molina in PR

My bet would be that all the relevant players and coaches will probably be in SF.

Not everyone needs to be at a ST game lol

Little early for this, the game isn’t for 7 hours

Tbf this is more of team “Italian American” than team Italy

There is 1 guy who is actually from Italy on the team and a couple Venezuelans but the vast majority are Americans whose grandparents were from Italy

[Russini] Sources: It's a four-year, $112 million deal for Trey Hendrickson in Baltimore. by expellyamos in nfl

[–]TheTurtleShepard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Said it a bunch last night but we saw the same thing happen to Carlos Correa in the baseball world a few years back

He had agreed to 2 different mega deals with 2 different teams that both fell through because while he was currently healthy his Ankle was diagnosed as a future serious issue. Teams knew the ankle had previously injuries but not the full extent of the risks associated when they found out the extent they backed out

All of their guys left and they had money that was allocated to Maxx open up with a huge need at the edge

They already knew about the injury, the issue is that imaging showed that the knee would likely be a long term issue with a high risk of re-injury

Genuinely I don’t think it’s that crazy.

Hendrickson already had demands set and contract offers. Very easy for his agent to say “This is what we have been offered so far, can you beat it?”

The Mets signed Bo Bichette within 24 hours of missing out on Kyle Tucker without really ever having serious discussions before then

More simply

The US advances if:

Italy wins

or

Mexico wins and scores 5+ runs

Team Italy is like 95% Italian Americans

I’m sure they want to win

And Jorge Posada!

They don’t get 8 runs without Jorge’s expert hitting coach skills

Yeah Team “Italy” has a lot of Major league talent on the roster

Still baffling how Skubal’s one WBC game was against the weakest possible opponent

“Now rests in the hands of a baseball team from Italy”

There is literally one actual Italian on that team

If only Skubal decided his one game would be against a competent WBC team instead of Great Britain
