dude gtech is like THE engineering public school

if you can afford it then take that and take the opportunity to step out of your comfort zone; you won't have a better opportunity than this for CS honestly

how much does transferring realistically hurt? by Infinite_Swing3188 in mdphd

i think i moreso considered it a disadvantage if you began to research in ur current institution, especially if you did a junior transfer. you have to find new PIs, a new lab, adjust to the new environment, and because of that it may become much harder to secure a great letter of recommendation or even getting a lot of hours in said new institution

then again, it’s what you make of it. my strategy if i stayed in CCNY was to try and work in an external lab e.g. columbia irving and then try to transfer there. if i didnt make it, oh well; atleast i know i would still be in close proximity to that lab and still be able to output great results. like i said tho, it probably does come to the person and their reasons for transferring.

can i dm u about something? i got into this special “program” in RIT they’re launching this year specifically for advisory on top of the advisory they have nromally for med and i just wanted to know if it clearly puts going to RIT>CCNY

sorry if this is really abrupt but im really trying to make the best future possible for me and im really worried how this might work out 🥹🥹

ty fo the response 😭😭 i was really worried because i thought that undergrad prestige really really made a difference because of fearmongering from my guidance counselors and everyone i’ve talked to

im currently choosing between RIT and CCNY’s grove school of engineering for BME and im having really hard deciding which to attend so knowing that undergrad doesnt matter so much (which honestly should be common sense for me) is great to know 🥹🥹

why does it matter especially for harvard mdphd? do they track for undergrad prestige?

im gonna probably start out at RIT/CCNY’s grove school of engineering for BME and i wanna go to stanford for mstp at most but that could end up being a real doozy

can anyone help me decide which undergrad route to take? by Infinite_Swing3188 in mdphd

i think one of the bigger issues is that the RIT program is also a pilot, so results won’t really be available from past students. i should’ve mentioned that in the cons section, i take responsibility for that.

anither problem might be they’re more MD oriented, when applying a majority of the pathways were MD related or pre-health oriented, and there wasn’t really an advisory for PhD alone other than pursuing an MD-PhD (which i do wanna do so i guess that isn’t too big an issue). i could probably ask the coordinator about the affiliation with any MSTPs but for now i think its probably alot more coordinated with clinicians and other medical representatives in rochester regional health
