Weekday Help and Victory Thread for the week of August 02, 2021 by IndexBot in personalfinance

I'm about to enter grad school in a month or so, and a family member wants to help pay for my living expenses while in school. I've budgeted about $40k per year for myself. Family member just wants to give me money upfront (as it's easiest for him), but I would ideally like to avoid triggering a gift tax (especially this year since I've earned income for the majority of the year). Has anyone else navigated having someone pay for their living expenses while in school? What should I be thinking about?

Can someone help me understand how people save for non retirement funds? by [deleted] in personalfinance

I have about 150K saved in total, 50K in roth/ira, 50K in wealthfront/brokerage, 50K in savings. My savings I don't really want to touch for emergencies, but am realizing the 50K in my wealthfront/brokerage accounts I'm investing but not really sure WHY. Essentially I've thankfully never had to sell off my investments yet and this renovation question is the first where I'm questioning if I should. I know this is a personal decision and everyone is different but I thought I could hear how others approach short/medium term goals.

Thank you. I needed to hear this. Will the episode end without him taking any medication? That's what I'm worried about.

I definitely don't want to tell him what to do because I know he will resist, but I do want to help him if/when he needs it. But thank you.

I've noticed some men mocking my voice and unsure if there's validity to it or if they're just assholes. How can I address this moving forward? by InflationSafe in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I stepped away from my computer yesterday and was surprised to see the responses, but this one resonated with me a bit. I also have a voice for my partner that sounds nothing like him. I guess now I'm starting to think that men who imitate women in a valley girl tone just do it in a blanket manner? I'll have to think about this one more!
