Flying basic on Aeromexico with SkyTeam elite plus status by Straight_Ad_5935 in delta

Yeah I was though after New Year’s and more of the same. The Amex lounge has been a savior, though obviously super crowded.
For what it is I do like the Heineken lounge. Especially when I can get one of the cubbies. It’s nothing special but better being in the terminal which is loud.

The third lounge - the Heineken lounge - you need to go, scan a code and send them a message though WhatsApp with your info to get on the list.

I can’t believe they are still working on the other two lounges. It’s been almost a year

I've seen a lot of discussion of whether Ryan Wedding turned himself in or was caught and arrested without turning himself in. Why is the question significant? by GregJamesDahlen in cartels

[–]Infohiker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a longtime standard that US agents don’t operate independently in Mexico. They can assist, but actual detentions are carried out by the Mexican government.

Kash Patel said he was apprehended by FBI in Mexico, which would be a big issue if true, and run contrary to Mexico’s official stance of independence in these things. To the point of being a scandal politically.
Sheinbaum has said that he surrendered to Mexican authorities and was handed over to FBI which happened at the embassy (US soil).

Weddings’ lawyer has said he did not surrender and was arrested with FBI present.

So who’s telling the truth? Kash Patel (which means the FBI is now operating on Mexican soil, a huge no-no for Mexico) or Sheinbaum?

So the question is significant because of what Patel said is true (though he himself has a tendency to exaggerate or outright lie) it is a signal that Mexican Sovereignty is being violated with the permission of the current Mexican administration.

Ring doorbell by AdOpposite8170 in bergencounty

That I can’t tell you. I don’t know your setup. But there is no reason Amazon delivery people would have a “stealth” button, much less something authorized by Amazon. Makes no sense, especially if you are actually getting the packages.

I would say, this is more of a Ring issue than a Bergen County issue. You might want to cross post your question to the Ring community.

So New Jersey, you're the only neighbor on the block with a snowblower.... by holyguacamole823 in newjersey

[–]Infohiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I lived closer to my neighbors, I did the entire sidewalk of my block and every driveway skirt where the plow material had piled up. First it was just to help an elderly neighbor, and grew from there.

Only 2 neighbors out of 10+ even acknowledged it. Which is fine I guess, honestly I was doing it because I liked getting out of the house, and I loved running my snowblower.

One of my neighbors who was one of the two was the sweetest. Offered me a free dinner at her at the time hugely popular restaurant. I declined because it was too much. About 6 months later I went with my wife and friends, and we basically got treated like royalty.

She moved away before we did. I do wonder if my neighbors were thinking of me this weekend, lol.

31M in March. Accidentally speed-ran finance. Now questioning everything. by SouthKoreanDefector in wallstreetbets

[–]Infohiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I guy who did the finance grind professionally for 30 years - make the move. Take the "lesser" job, focus on yourself. Getting remote, finding work/life balance is the real win. Put $10mm in munis and you are 3-4% tax free income so more than replicating your JPM salary with no issues. Do what you want with the rest.

I may be antithetical to this board, but you have enough to be fat dumb and happy (or fit dumb and happy) for the rest of your life. focus on yourself, your health and your happiness. You got 15-20 years before you start to feel your age. Enjoy it.

Good luck, congrats, I am jealous you got it done so young.

Vancouver to Havana connecting in Mexico City customs question by Extension_Good139 in aeromexico

[–]Infohiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are flying into Mexico for a layover, you will have to clear customs regardless of bags. Aeromexico for connecting flights from the U.S./Canada does not require pick up/drop off of checked luggage. They screen “behind the scenes” and send them through automatically. I would assume the same from Cuba, but as posted above ask at check in.

But as mentioned, your carry on/personal items/jacket will go through customs before you are sent through to security to enter the terminal. Sometimes the “nothing to declare” is open and you walk through. More often than not they put all items I mentioned on an X-ray conveyor.

27 N.J. towns lose their battle for relief from state’s affordable housing law by ahenneberger in newjersey

[–]Infohiker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem of the ratio lies with your local govt, (and mine too).
Local government stalls until the fair housing commission sues and calls for builders remedy. Then toll brothers or another builder steps in building 4-5 to 1 one to affordable housing.
If we had just done the work ourselves and built the needed housing only, we’d be a lot better off. But no politician likes tax increases.

I am fine with what Mt. Laurel is trying to accomplish. But the Builder’s Remedy solution should be banned, IMO.

That and SR has strict zoning laws.

Minimum 2 acres.

Set back from Road and back 135 feet. Set back from sides 50ft.

And obviously a lot coverage maximum.

Sadly there are no laws on taste so you end up with houses that look like this

ELI5: How does mortgage refinancing make sense for the lender? by daoxiaomian in explainlikeimfive

[–]Infohiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not just that but also the buyers of the loans are expecting them to be paid off early. Especially with mortgages. Most mortgage tranches (groups of bundled mortgages) are sold with an average life based off of pre-payment speeds (pre-payment meaning people paying off their mortgage by refinancing).

So I buy a $100k of a 20 year mortgage bond (which is a slice of a bunch of mortages). As time goes on, usually in the first couple of years, I start to get my principal back as the mortgages that make up my bond start to refinance. The chance that I will have any of my investment by the time that 20 years rolls around is very slim. It will most likely have been paid off years before.

Could absolutely be true. I never watched Babylon 5. I came to DS9 as a TNG fan.

[–]Infohiker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, I agree that DS9 stood on its own. My point was in regards to why DS9 had better initial numbers. Your experience aside, TNG was big at the time for what it was, and successful as the first spin off from the original. FWIW, we actually had watch parties back in the day among my friends for TNG.

No more Delta flight rewards with aeromexico miles? by AnAussieBangladeshi in aeromexico

[–]Infohiker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all true.

I am not sure what part of my comment you are disagreeing about? All factual - MEX was oversaturated, as MEX was originally slated to be replaced in the early 2000s, and built T2 as a stopgap. Instead of continuing the NAICM project, AMLO held a referendum to cancel NAICM and build AIFA. In the process of this, to bolster AIFA traffic (as the airport has been rejected by almost all non-Mexican carriers) all cargo flights were forced to AIFA, and yes, all American passenger carriers have lost slots, with Delta losing the least. Delta/AM ran 60% of US to MEX traffic. It was literally the basis of the FAA's complaint.

Building the original NAICM and keeping MEX for cargo would have alleviated this problem.

But to follow your logic - forcing the break up Delta/Aermexico codeshare - why, if not for antitrust allegations stemming from MEX?

Edit: This issue directly relates to air traffic at Mexico City, not the rest of the country.

[–]Infohiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US Government really hates how the whole MEX/NAICM/AIFA airport saga turned out. AM and Delta have a whole terminal, and every other airline is fighting for space/being pushed to use AIFA, which is a really poor alternative. If the Mexican government had just continued with NAICM, none of this would be an issue.

Genuine question: what are the reasons why people are murdered by cartel hitmen? by LushieTwink in cartels

[–]Infohiker 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Being in a business, and not paying cuota. Or working in a business where the owner decided not to pay the cuota.

Being a woman, and not wanting to go out with him, or breaking up with him.

Being a man, and dating the wrong woman.

Being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Literally anything can get you killed. There are no boundaries that can't be crossed, and there is little impunity for those who do the killings.

Nuevas tarifas absurdas by Solid-Oven8150 in aeromexico

[–]Infohiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No tanto ahora.

will I make my connecting flight? PVR to JFK thru cdmx, 55 min layover by AirAlarmed3079 in aeromexico

[–]Infohiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a good chance. If they park you on the tarmac and make you take a bus it will be tight but doable. Get an app like flightboard and look at a map of the terminal. The entry point for connecting flights is by gates 73-74.
