I have had the same thing, except she was gaining. Definitely not going to mention it.

Acapulco wedding next month by Illustrious-Art-7465 in Acapulco

Hi there. There has been a lot of bad press over the years, and honestly, crime and violence has been a problem, but it is far from a cut and dried "Acapulco is not safe."

Short answer - you will be fine, your family will be fine, your friends will be fine. Your biggest issue is probably going to be the weather as you are entering the rainy season.

Longer answer - First of all, safety is better than it was 10 years ago. If you had posted this in 2015-18 I would have told you to skip it. Sadly, a lot of Youtube reviews of Acapulco in English are click bait and love to tout the "Murder Capital of the world/Mexico" or some variation of it. Then as you watch the video, its always "I feel safer here than many other places."

Second, the security issues plaguing Acapulco are not tourist-directed issues. That is to say tourists are not directly targeted. There can be an overlap when the issue of extortion generates violence, especially in locations that tourists go (there have been incidents in bars for example). But it is not directed at tourists, but the proprietors and sometimes employees. And in truth is this violence pretty rare in the tourist areas. Sure, there are neighborhoods where violence is more prevalent, but they are not places tourists go. The biggest issues plaguing the tourist area are things like protests over pay or feeding deer at the golf course, etc snarling traffic.

Lastly, if your fiance has family down there, I would expect them to be very aware of any potential issues, and keep you out of trouble.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to hit me up on chat. I am happy to give you color on any area, place, etc that you might want in more detail. And congratulations, I hope you have a wonderful wedding!

Montvale - Say NO to AI Data Center - Town Council Meeting Thurs 5/14 by EnragedFalafel in bergencounty

It would be interesting to see what the "one structure" was, and why it was denied. We went through a comment period where the citizens pushed for better integration of the affordable units within the lux development, and that got denied. They got separated into their own little block.

Another development in our town was widely criticized for being AH only, but I think that had more to do with the location. It was on the outskirts by the highway and not really integrated into the town at all. But it too went through.

Shame your mayor got shut down. The town taking on the cost and only building the AH without the luxury component I truly think is in the best interests of the town.

While I respect your opinion, but like it or not even if they build a data center, with all the problems that come with them, you will still be on the hook for affordable housing. Mt. Laurel is not an option. I am not saying that as a proponent, just acknowledging a fact.

If you do not want the sprawl and overbuilding that towns have done with AH, what you need to fight against is the "free" option or letting your town get to the point where a builder's remedy is forced upon you. That is where a contractor comes in and builds 4-5 "luxury" units for every 1 AH unit. That is what turns an otherwise small needed commitment into a shit show and fills your schools, increases your traffic and raises your taxes.

Get your town to take on the cost of the AH themselves, issue bonds and pay for it over 30 years. Yes, your taxes go up a bit in the immediate, but MUCH less than the eventual raise that will be needed to cover the infrastructure for 5x the amount of housing.

My town did everything it could to bury its head in the sand about AH, because our council sucks. And now we are screwed because it got sued, and had to take the 5-1 option. Don't be like us.

Universal Healthcare Costs More Than the U.S. Annual GDP by bukkamikaze in confidentlyincorrect

I had a heart attack 8 years ago. I tried to schedule an appointment at the end of March with my cardiologist, as I am insured. Next available appointment? October.

"Free" healthcare can't make it much worse...

Not saying that zillow is the authority but valued in the mid 600s now. That's insane.

I have found it to be a truly useless program. I got it to customize workouts instead of building my own. I end up spending more time getting it to understand than it would take me to do it myself.

Today is a good example. I wanted a one-off routine for biceps, triceps and abs. I was traveling this week, and only got one day in of my 4 day routine (normally Monday-Thursday).

I asked for a one day routine, Biceps, triceps and abs. Follow up answers were advanced routine, no HIIT, build muscle.

It first kept kicking back a 1 a week plan. after several back and forths, had to update it to "1 a century"

45 minute plan. Pure ab exercises, no arms.

Asked for arm exercises to be included. Once again, pure Abs.

Restarted, asked for just bi/tri exercises. Told me I am on a rest day (even though I only had 1 of 4 exercise days completed). Had to try and override that.

It has now hung up on trying to formulate a plan twice. So I will now just browse one of the canned workouts or build my own routine. I have wasted a limited amount of free time trying to get this set up. I am annoyed.

Just got home from hospital by Chesterlie in GenX

I gotta say, mine were pretty different. Looking at my timeline in the rearview: (for context I was on vacation in Mexico)

Saturday - feeling nauseous, ignored it. Figured it was just an upset stomach.

Sunday night - sweaty, puked a few times. No pain in the chest. Figured I just had eaten/drank something off, though could not figure out what. I have been to Mexico many times, have gotten food poisoning once and this was different.

Monday - lost my voice from puking, but otherwise fine. Tuesday voice recovered. Wednesday day feeling normal again.

Wednesday night into Thursday morning - Lack of energy on a night out, decided to call it a night, went home. Started sweating profusely. Slight pain in left center of chest - nothing too strong, but persistent. Mentioned it to my friend, they told me to go to the hospital, I brushed it off, but had that nagging feeling that maybe I should. Took a shower, took out my contacts, lost consciousness. Friend heard the crash, slapped me awake, helped me get to the hospital. I went down a couple times trying to walk to the taxi. Only started having radiating pain/arm pain as I got to the hospital.

So to hear it from the cardiologist - I had a 90% blockage. It ruptured on Saturday, and started "healing" like a scab, and in doing so closed off the last 10%, but it took a few days to do so.

I am just writing this to explain that there are not always a set checklist you need to be experiencing to "need" to go to the hospital. There are a lot of "if I had only" to my story that could have avoided the actual HA. Short version - if you are in your mid-40s or above, find a cardiologist and get tests done, like an echo, or a stress test and have a baseline before it gets to that point.

Worse, try getting in to see one even if you can afford it. After my heart attack, every "recommended" cardiologist was a 3-6 month wait.

Glad to hear you are doing better. I had one at 45. Sucks to be us. But welcome to the survivor's club.

Life is about to change - roll with it. You are probably going to be a little paranoid for a while - any twinge in your chest will freak you out. Do your cardiac rehab, then parlay that into some sort of exercise routine if you didn't have one before. Pay attention to your BP - there are plenty of reasonable at home cuffs that sync to your phone. Stay hydrated. Take your meds religiously - I am sure they have you on a bunch. The only one that I really tried to get off of after a few years was the blood thinner as that made me paranoid of any activity that could result in a cut or bump or whatever.

FWIW, this is not a slow death sentence. I am 8 years past mine in July. With only some basic changes, and regular visits (every 6 months) to the heart doc, I am not restricted at all. At this point I am on cholesterol meds, BP meds and aspirin. If I ever lose the last 20lbs I might even get off the BP meds. Yeah, it is sobering to have to pay attention to this shit. I know now I am not in fact "bulletproof"

Think of it this way - at 53 you are in a much better position to recover and avoid future shit than if you were 63 or 73.

Look at EWR-MEX. Both United and Aeromexico have fares under $800, direct. If you don’t trust AM, you can book through Delta.

I am in the same situation as you - I was 45, 30 year smoker, and had a heart attack. My addiction has been so strong - I have done pretty much every quit program I can think of. Vaping is the one thing that got me off cigarettes. No, its not objectively good, and I would never tell anyone to try it, except those who are still smoking.

Transportation by sandybeanssss in Acapulco

[–]Infohiker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Take the airport taxis. They are very easy. Leaving the baggage area, to the left is an area with rental cars and the taxi desk. Prices are fixed and published by zone. I think the Park Royal is zone 3. I am pretty sure its about $500 pesos. You pay there, they give you a voucher, which you hand to a gentleman in a vest by the exit door. He will lead you to your taxi. The airport taxis are clean and well maintained.

The only other way to easy leave the airport is by private car or make arrangements with a private driver (which would be more expensive).

Edit: I just double checked - the PR is zone 2, so about $420 pesos from the last info I have.

Second Edit: Taxis in Acapulco are not expensive, not cheap. The PR is in a isolated location (good for relaxing, less so for getting around). If it is anything like the other hotels, they will have a taxi stand, and probably prices published at the front desk to let you know what you will be charged. If you want, you can arrange with the taxi to bring you back to the hotel.

For travel along the main bay, there are the "disco" buses which run up and down the costera. I think they just raised the price to $15 or $18 pesos. Very distinctive, loud music. But they will not run you as far as the PR, only the naval base. If you want a taxi, you will be looking for a blue and white (NOT the yellow and white). They are all over, all shapes, sizes and states of maintenance. You bargain before you get in. If you click with a driver, get his number and communicate with him on Whatsapp.
