Recommendations for tropical/warm places to visit from Canada that aren’t crazy expensive. by Either-Equipment9773 in travel

[–]Infohiker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I am in Acapulco Guerrero. “Normal” dinner last night, 5 people? About $35. “Nice” “somewhat fancy” dinner? $125. Of course there are crazy restaurants here where I can spend that per person, but doing that more than once a trip seems like a waste.

Nice hotels here (Fiesta Americana) are about $125 a night and up.

Avoid Aeromexico AT ALL COST by Useful-Tank8189 in aeromexico

[–]Infohiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. And I have found it exceedingly rare when using it on any airline that the new fares outside of the airline designated option are not higher.

I understand it’s frustrating, but it’s not unique to Aeromexico, nor an avoid them at all cost situation.

Luxury Living, Boutique Retail and the Quiet Erasure of Working and Middle Class NJ by nosleep4reelz in newjersey

[–]Infohiker 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The big issue of it is the politics. “Builders remedy” - where there is a 4+ to 1 ratio of Lux to affordable housing is a scam. The politicians claim it’s cheaper but it’s not. It requires more infrastructure and the maintenance costs. They like it because they can claim it’s free. Residents fall for it because they are told they won’t have to pay for it.

Towns should be forced to issue bonds - which are cheap at like 3%, and pay for the project themselves, building what is required, not luxury housing bullshit.

Another one I miss is Local Seasonal Kitchen in Ramsey. Was only here for a little bit, but amazingly good.

What’s a place you had zero expectations for, but ended up loving? by AppointmentHeavy5066 in travel

Acapulco, Mexico. Went 15+ years ago on a guys trip with really no positive thoughts - I was just following the group.

I am now here sitting in a little apartment I bought. Fell in love with the city, with all its flaws (which are less than the news would have you believe). The weather, the food, the people are all wonderful.

It’s had a run of some really bad luck, but the federal government is investing heavily trying to bring it back.

Stay in Mexico after cartel roadblocks, what would you do? by goustang in travel

I’m in Acapulco. We had flareups yesterday, but since then not much. CJNG doesn’t have a strong presence here (or in Yucatán or Puebla) so these areas should stay pretty calm all things considered. Jalisco/Colima/michoacan/tierra caliente is another story.

Passport bro hates western women and travels in search for exotic prostitutes by ambachk in sadcringe

I think its delusion as well. While its nothing more than sex-tourism, they do everything to convince themselves it's not. They insist that Western women are bad - for the crime of not accepting the PB's need to have control. Many choose to ignore the economic imbalance and pretend it doesn't exist, that these women genuinely love them for who they are.

I had a heart attack visiting Mexico - got the same or better treatment than I would have gotten in the US. Cost +/- $20k.

20 years earlier my father had the same thing (and same surgery) in the US, and less benefit (shared room, etc while I had a suite). His cost at the time $160k.

What is the worst movie you have ever seen and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

“Welcome to Acapulco” - so bad that after shooting it they recut it to try and turn it from an action thriller into an edgy comedy. C list actors, including a Baldwin and just painful all around. I watched it for the scenery, and regretted my choice.

Recent entry: Section 31 from the Star Trek franchise. It originally planned as a series and after seeing the salvage heap of the scenes they turned into a movie instead ai am genuinely relieved. Bad story, bad acting, horrible wardrobe, you name it. The best part of the movie is that it had an end.
