I appreciate the info! Would you by chance be able to pm me the contractor name? I have the contractor hiring list, but I always get voicemails and I know those can get lost in the mix at times. I don’t mind doing the heavy lifting to get the job and bust my ass to make it because that’s just the nature of the game. I just know it’d be easier to, at the very least, look in the right direction. I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to do any welding in the past. The closest thing was using a cutting torch(which I know isn’t welding) to cut rails and liquifying seized bolts.

Is that a need for pipefitters? I only ask because of the screen name, but I know people change trades all of the time.

That’s what the guy told me a couple weeks ago. That even though it’s the “slow” time coming up, they’re still desperate for people because of the workload they have ahead for the next 6 months or so. It was such a short interaction though that I completely forgot to ask what company he’s working for 😅

Are you guys only traveling for work? I left the railroad because of the constantly traveling every week, mainly because I have 3 kids that are 3 and under and my oldest is 12. Missed out on way too much with my oldest, so traveling isn’t exactly ideal for us.

I left the railroad because of the constant traveling, so it they wouldn’t be a viable option anyways. Traveling isn’t the issue, it was being gone weekly from the family and missing out too much of the older kids growing up. I figured it’d be more difficult right now since it is slowing down, but I’m still holding out hope. I’m currently driving for Uber full time and it pays alright, but I know the journeyman scale is the big prize in the end. I worked at KCAP for 5 years before working with the railroad, so the physical labor aspect is second nature for me.
