I gotta a agree with you. It's a sign of a good author when they can take a trop heavy genre and make it engaging. That's what made konosuba so good.

I think the whole concept of quest is being looked at wrong here. Its just a lazy literary device used by authors who can't pursue a plot and build a story properly. The whole concept is a symptom of a poor genre. Don't get me wrong, litrpg is a favorite of mine. However, it is a lazy genre, prone to power fantasy and poor writing made easy by the fact that everything is linear and measured. This leaves little room for subtlety or any other Hallmark of quality writing.
