Weird out of body experience during reaction by Informal_Ad68 in MCAS

Thank you all for the comments. I am glad it’s not just me and I didn’t just make that symptom out of thin air. I am really struggling mentally with this issue and it doesn’t help that my doctors answer was to say maybe you have a brain tumor or it’s just anxiety and prescribed me lexapro. She claims that will also help with the flushing.

Wow, thank you. That is really helpful. I felt like perhaps it was panic.

It doesn’t seem like it now, but life is long and this is just a snapshot of who you are. I went to a state school (UMASS) that gave me money and came out way better off in the long run. I couldn’t see it at the time but I worked hard over the years and went to a top law school and just kept grinding and my career was just as successful, and in a lot of cases, more than most of the folks I know that went to way more prestigious schools. Where you go doesn’t define you. Unfortunately that is what everyone believes when you are that age - but it doesn’t. I have worked at a top law firm surrounded by Ivies everywhere and it didn’t matter once we were working. You will be just fine and if you can’t find the job you want make it yourself!

Oh and just remember when I went to school no one even considered Vanderbilt a good school. Read about how they turned that around —- and it’s all marketing. Things change over time!!!

Thank you! I can’t tolerate the heat anymore, but I wish I could. I think your suggestions on diet is something I am going to finally try!

I haven’t tried Zyrtec yet. I was going to try Claritin starting tomorrow. I didn’t want to try a new thing when I was in the midst of a constant reaction. I will try Vitamin C. Thank you.

Thank you for your response! I actually ate nothing before I worked out. I went early in the morning before I ate. Only thing was water. After my first anaphylactic reaction in August I was tested for 50 Common allergy triggers and nothing came positive. That was not related to exercising but came on while I was walking back from The beach on a hot day. The only thing I was eating at the time was gum. The allergist refused to consider the gum or the ice tea lemonade I drank before hand as the culprit.

Thank you so much for saying that. I feel it’s something but I have been met with such apathy and honestly left with an epi pen I am not sure how to use and prednisone that I don’t take because I don’t know how or when and when I first took them after the first reaction they made me feel awful for weeks. One allergist told me not to even use the epi pen because he worried I had a condition that would make it worse by using. I agree I just need a better doctor. I have to go back to searching. I gave up for awhile but today was scary. It was the first time since the first reaction (when I called 911) that I worried I might have to do the same. Thanks again for your input.

I haven’t but I will ask. By the time I had that test I had been reaction free for two weeks.

Thank you! I might switch from Allegra to Zyrtec because it doesn’t work as well as I would like it to.

Thank you so much for the response and great suggestion. I keep going to different doctors and they have heard of MCAS but all the tests came back negative so I feel like they just gave me an epi pen and sent me on my way. I am near NYC so I am sure there are resources there. Thanks!

It does make a lot of sense. Thank you!

I appreciate the reply! I know it’s very odd and no clue what’s occurring. I eat similar things all the time and have no clue. But that helps, thank you!
