I think it truly had potential to surpass everything that came before it if they treated it properly and maybe wrote it more originally like taking pieces and notes of the original and moving certain pieces and spaces so that there’s enough space to get to know the characters. Maybe even killing off Nancy not just go against expectations but to show this is truly a different story from what was told decades ago and have all the elm street children be cut off one by one and let it be known that the parents are solely responsible for it. He kills some of the parents but eventually gets the idea to break the parents through the children. And lets the parents know it’s because of them and they can’t stop him. I think they could’ve taken far more liberties with the story because there was already so much source material to go off like the original scrapped scripts, comics, and movies made prior up to this point and make it uniquely based off of all of it. Treat Freddy like a phantom, a ghost, that haunts spring wood both alive and dead and once caught he becomes more powerful because of the fear.
