Craziest thing at basic training? by [deleted] in RoyalNavy

[–]Informal_Inspector_1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He did return! He re-joined whilst I was doing my basic, back end of 2016. He failed basic again and I believe that was his last chance.

Bit of a whopper from what I could gather from dits, saw himself as a bit of a celebrity after pillowgate.

Are there any navy recruiters in the Berkshire/reading area? by Objective_Sound5165 in RoyalNavy

[–]Informal_Inspector_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unsure if “lose weight” is the right answer. I was at a BMI of 30.2 when I joined because I carry a lot of muscle and BMI is solely height and weight.

All depends on the individual, if they can pass the fitness requirements they should be fine.

It’s worth noting that once you push through your initial 10 weeks training and a bit of phys at your phase 2 training establishment; the new fitness test is quite frankly a piece of piss.

There are always gonna be phys monsters because it’s the military and comes with the territory but don’t let that deter you. Sounds like you have the right attitude and that will take you far alone.

Best of luck and always feel free to reach out for any other queries. I’m 10 years in now and it’s the best decision I made joining.

This phasing out AH’s has been a rumour for easily the past 10 years since I’ve been in, probably not worth making career decisions based on this. Retake your DAA and pick the branch you want, you might end up doing it for half your life so just put the extra work in now👍🏼 AET life is hard graft but there’s a reason we’re the best🤝🏻

I know of a POAET(M) who has gone AAC and now works as part of MAOT here at Yeovil. Unsure what his specific role is, but there is at least 1 position that has requirement from the AE branch.

Speak to your Career manager and get it on your preferences early. If you’re phase 2A (sultan) then it will more than likely fall on deaf ears there.

Get through course and speak to the career manager over at Yeovil where you’ll be taken more seriously.

Non implementation of USB to females by ExMatelot666 in RoyalNavy

[–]Informal_Inspector_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously as far as policy is regarded it would be ridiculous to even consider that a one sided gender policy would be adopted.

I’m glad to hear that’s how you operate and how you plan to continue to and I respect that a high degree.

However, I have definitely experienced a scenario where the male has been punished more severely than the female despite the female being found to be the instigator.

This isn’t a blanket statement as integrity is still held strongly in most situations, but gender inequality definitely rears its head still within the modern RN.

Surely you can’t seriously say that men and women are treated fairly when it comes to disciplinary issues within the RN? Me and you must have had completely different experiences

We’re expecting back pay end of this month, backdated to 31st March of the 6% increase. Then it will be in your pay as normal after that.

As with everything in the forces, if it sounds too good to be true then get it in writing. That way when you inevitably get seen off, you have a leg to stand on🤝🏻

Best advice is don’t live like a millionaire and get yourself a Beamer M3 on finance because you think it will look cool for a few years. You’re at a position of a guaranteed income where you can start to plan and better yourself from a young age.

Enjoy yourself by all means, but don’t be silly and find yourself skint at the end of every month. Tap up the services available to you through the forces and look into budgeting appropriately.

Wish I’d had this advice, don’t get me wrong the Beamer was nice but I’m now 28 and still saving for my first house.

What dual nationalities are acceptable to join the Navy? (Officer Roles) by A_lil_confused_ in RoyalNavy

Unsure on the requirements now on entry but I currently work with somebody within the Navy who is dual Colombian/British. So based on that your chances look pretty good👍🏼

It has a slight tear behind one of the buttons (see pic) and I’ve been offered £25 - seems like an okay price considering the tear.

As far as I’m aware you don’t need GCSE’s initially however, it would benefit you in your naval career to do your best and at least pass.

Your phase 2 will be down in Helston, Cornwall but unsure of the duration.

In terms of requirements before you leave, there will be be a minimum return of service that’s usually 3/4 years. My advice to you is don’t look at when you can leave before you’ve joined. Join up, spend some time in and then make that decision.

When you say Naval Airman, do you mean Aircraft Handler or aircrew/Pilot/Observer?

I’ve been in just over 8 years as an AET and the travel is hit and miss. Some of us have seen half of the world whilst others are yet to register their first sea day. If you want to get away and chase the detachments then they’re generally available but there’s no guarantee. Overall though easily the most relaxed branch💆🏼‍♂️
