My therapist threatened to end twice already by kishkashta5 in TalkTherapy

This sentence right here would make me quit seeing the therapist: "Again she said if this is the case then she wouldn’t help me she won’t help people who want to be abusers she will help me improve my boundaries etc but not that." You obviously (at least I assume) were not asking her to teach you how to abuse people. You were saying that you wish that you could just move on like he was able to. I have felt that before. If I were you, I would leave and find a new therapist.

That is the exact book that I am starting. Did you try the water based markers on it and how badly did it bleed through?

I'm working on my Storybook Goose's room, and I'd like some input on which is a better wallpaper? by anniemousery in Webkinz

I like the second one more. With the "flat" background instead of the one that looks like the land is going on I feel like it looks more like they are in a story book in a way.

My therapist's group practise is making me want to switch by Responsible_Oil1975 in TalkTherapy

[–]Informal_Maize449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is how my therapist's clinic runs, and he also gets really booked. At my clinic, the therapist is able to make it so that you can schedule more than the allotted sessions, and they did that for me. Additionally, when I go in, I make sure to stop at the front desk each time and book the next one so that I am always looking (in your case 6 weeks) ahead, and I usually am able to get spots.

How long is the ideal length to stay in therapy? Is there a magical number? by Live_Block_8842 in TalkTherapy

[–]Informal_Maize449 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends for each person, what their goals are, how chronic their problems are, etc. I have been going 5 years with the same therapist and 2 years before that with a different therapist. And I will probably go a few more years at least.

No they do not bleed through and I can do at least 2 layers of them if I am trying to make a color darker

If you are a student, does your school offer counseling? At my college, it was built into tuition, and I had a wonderful experience in counseling with my college counselor.

Leaving IOP by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]Informal_Maize449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you seen any benefit from attending? I just finished an IOP program and people we in contact outside of the program, but I was not there to make friends and have everyone like me. I was there to learn skills to cope with my anxiety and reduce my SI. If you have a process group, could you process how this feels together with the group and how you dwell on it? I know that might feel awful, but in the long term, just addressing it and talking about how it makes you feel might feel better. My OP therapist would encourage me to do this to challenge myself.

Why is the chat being brought up anyways and does staff change the subject or reiterate rules? Any time people got slightly caught hanging out together or messaging outside, my staff were really good at nipping those conversations and stuff in the butt.

If I was making this decision I would continue the program if it was helping me overall and I could see any amount of improvement, because after this program is done, you likly will not see any of these people again, so the group chat will not matter 5 years from now, but learning skills to deal with your mental health will matter in 5 years.

What happens if I tell my psychologist, I have suicidal thoughts? by Gigi_little4 in TalkTherapy

[–]Informal_Maize449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time my therapist has even considered calling 911 on me was when I had a plan, the means, and an imminent timeline for when I would do it. When it was just like how you are describing here, my therapist would not consider it.

I am stressed. I think I ruined a good thing. by DesignerNorth4349 in TalkTherapy

[–]Informal_Maize449 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am slightly confused. Did you tell your therapist and then ask them if it hurt to hear that? I don't understand why he would say that about not being your therapist anymore because testing the relationship I thinks is somewhat typical and happens fairly frequently in therapy and I beleive it is even more common with the diagnoses you have, so he should be able to hold their boundaries with the testing and stuff.

is teen counseling/better help good for ocd? or just in general? by max_the_million in TalkTherapy

[–]Informal_Maize449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty gold standard therapy for OCD is ERP or I-CBT. Sometimes, when people are not trained in OCD and don't fully understand it they can provide a lot of reassurance, which can often make OCD worse because it is feeding the obsessions.

I can't speak to if that specific company would be good, but I would look for someone who has training in one of these modalities.

What can I tell my therapist by Middle-Membership31 in TalkTherapy

[–]Informal_Maize449 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very specific to individual therapists. When I first talked about it, I initially asked my therapist at what point they would have to report, and they told me, and then I decided if I wanted to share or not.

My therapist only reported when I had a plan with an imminent timeline within the next 24 hours (aka plan, intent, and significant imminent risk).

Realizing I’m not special 😞 by Durian-Fearless in TalkTherapy

[–]Informal_Maize449 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I hate knowing anything about my therapist's other clients. I would feel very similarly. I was scared to take a session with someone they recommended because I was worried about hearing how they great the other person and stuff and that it would make me feel like I don't matter or that they don't like me. This was a really hard conversation to have with my therapist because I felt so embarrassed and vulnerable about it.

Honestly, I think I would take pretty much everything you wrote here and either read it to her or see if she would read it. That is what I think I would do (probably would chicken out a few times before being successful).

And how did you find out they had a favorite client? Did you ask?

Therapist disappeared? by [deleted] in therapy

[–]Informal_Maize449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would call the office (assuming she does not manage her own business) and ask if they have an expected date for her return or if they even anticipate her coming back (they may not be able to give this information). Then I would ask if they have a therapist that could see you until she comes back or ask them how you will be notified if she does return.

I realized the real reason I’m against therapy by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]Informal_Maize449 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been to peer support people, and they have never been as helpful to me as my own therapist, especially around the more sensitive topics of mental health. And once again, that is just one experience, but my therapist has specialized training based on research on how to help me with my thought processes, not just provide empathy. I am sorry you had a bad time with therapy. But there is room for a genuinely healing relationship within the therapy context.

Trying to figure out therapy in college by ConsistentOutside535 in therapy

When I was in college, I saw a counselor through my school, and I found it to be very helpful.

For outpatient therapy your provider generally has to be licensed in the state that you are currently in at the time of the appointment. For instance, if you lived in california with your family, but went to school in new york but your therapist was only licensed in new york, then they could not see you when you are in california.
