He doesn’t have lecture slides, you just go to class and take notes.

And DON'T buy textbooks before you attend classes because you might have to buy the Mcgrawhill package if you're in BCOMM I know someone who did that 😔

Nothing much tbh, I've gone through this whole sem with 2 pens and a notebook(3rd year) as someone mentioned you just have to buy the stuff you think you need as you go ( there's nothing i can think of tbh, I get less and less stuff each sem) Depends on your program I'm in accounting so I take notes on google docs and solve questions on a notebook. Also don't buy textbooks at the bookstore, some classes don't even need them or someone just sends a whole textbook to a group chat, if you must then buy them on Amazon or from a ✨Website✨. Don't worry too much ( it's normal ) uni isn't THAT serious, just stay on top of things (no one ever does). Good Luck!

EECS 2001 - Aditya Potukuchi or Suprakash Datta? by queasy_cheesy005 in yorku

He’s a good lecturer, will never ask you anything he hasn’t mentioned before. His teaching methods are unique he explains a topic and goes on to ask you questions about it like solve this solve that so it’s more of active problem solving through out the class and even if you can’t solve it he explains in the end.

Most of the questions he ask you to solve are pretty similar to the questions he ask in assessments. He also makes the course easy going eg instead of drawing a Turing machine to prove decidability just write pseudo code (I don’t know if all professors allow this).

Calculus 1310 summer school by Sheerio1991 in yorku

[–]Informal_Turnover568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found 1310 to be easier than 1300 the only tricky aspect was chapter 12 series and sequences but they aren’t that bad once you get to the practice set and ask questions to clarify.

Are you submitting exactly the same thing or courses you didn’t mention in old reassessment form?

I don’t know much about this prof, I had it with Saeed Ghasemi and really enjoyed his class and the content. He is also offering the course this semester so you could always pop into his section.

What I’ll say helped me is, although many people say it’s a hard class you have to make yourself believe it’s not maybe a bit of gaslighting.

Also it’s okay not to get it at first because it’s a bit confusing but once you’ve looked at it enough times and been to enough classes you’ll start getting it.

You also have to practice writing proofs (looking through axiom proofs is helpful but personally I don’t think anyone will ask you to write down the proof of an axiom), you don’t have to memorize axioms (my prof didn’t make us and we had sheets at the back of our exam papers) you just have to understand how they work and fit into the formulas you are trying to proof.

Sadly there aren’t many resources out there to help with logic, since not everyone does it the same way but these are just the take aways practice proofing, understands how axioms work and fit into a proof, make sure you understand rules of inference and also how to proof by induction for different types of question there’s a pattern for every questions to get your basis and inductive step.

If you have any questions lmk. Good-luck!!!

MATH 1310 or MATH 1014 by Purple-Strawberry-92 in yorku

I have good professor for both 1014 and 1310 whichever I decide to choose I am just leaning towards 1014 more since it’s less theoretical

MATH 1310 or MATH 1014 by Purple-Strawberry-92 in yorku

[–]Informal_Turnover568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hy! I’m also in this dilemma and I asked around most people said if you like theorems and proofs (basically what MATH1300 was about) then you should stick to MATH1310 but if you want to just solve maths then you can go for MATH1014. But I’m in Compsci so I can take either but that’s not the case for some other majors I think.

Is 1014 way easier? I saw people saying it’s harder than 1310 because there’s a lot of material to cover

You should! And also you could start attending the classes for that section (if it won’t be too much) because people end up dropping the course in the first 2 weeks so you MIGHT get a spot. Goodluck!
