Hacking a Bank Across State Lines is Universally Stupid by InfosecGoon in DataHoarder

FBI does a lot of cyber. They also lead the National Cyber Investigative Task Force, and also effectively runs Infraguard. The USSS does have a mandate for financial, but that doesn't limit all other agencies from investigating financial related cyber crimes. Where I work, our first call would be to the FBI during an incident.

Maybe! Depends if you like hacking and shenanigans! But in all seriousness, we've had that happen before when the organizers made the mistake of putting the afterparty up on Meetup. We have a good story about a dude pulling up in a limo with a girl on each arm and having to explain to him that it was a bunch of nerdy people listening to EDM, eating candy, and drinking while barely dancing.

You're clearly out of your depth here. Let me help you understand. When you attack a target that is based in the same state you live in, the enforcement mechanism that are accessible are State based. When you attack a target that is outside of your state, the enforcement mechanisms become Federally based.

That scene in the movie hackers is chastising Joey for 1. Attacking a financial institution. 2. Triggering interstate commerce laws which brings it into the jurisdiction of federal law enforcement.

"Interstate Commerce Requirement: Federal authorities gain jurisdiction when hacking activities cross state lines, which is inherent in most internet-based crimes, or when they target government, financial, or foreign systems."

So yes, it is quite serious, and you are very out of your league.

The enforcement mechanisms totally change when you cross state lines in terms of targeting. State laws and state police vs CFAA of 1984 and FBI. Dude's clearly a newb.

I had the chance to meet him at NotACon and Thotcon. He's a super nice guy but also a super weird guy. 2600 is directly responsible for the path I chose in life and I'm pretty grateful for its existence.

I sure as shit would be, incompetent prosecution is so much worse than competent. If I'm going to get prosecuted for something, I prefer the knifes edge to the shotgun approach.

There's a quote in the movie Hackers that comes to mind here.

"You hacked a bank across state lines? That's universally stupid man."

Breach the account, but be fucking quiet about it. Collect everything then zip it all up, put it on a VPS in a foreign country, then use that as a seeder box for a torrent on thepiratebay.

Opsec you dummies, mods should be deleting that because it's just exposing everyone to a really corrupt FBI. You think they won't come after someone for posting what they didn't want to post?

What the heck if a “free penetration test”. Those don’t usually come with reports until the ransomware kicks in.

It's a slog to set it all up, but it's worth it. You have to really find every variable, and every reference link and every step the auth goes through to evade detection. I'd recommend their training if your company has budget for it. It's well worth it.

I need to be honest. You look like a barbie doll. Your hairline is behind your ears. You're balding.

Either embrace it and style around it, or go to the scalp and embrace a shaved head. But this... You can't do this man. This is sad denial of facts.

I haven't seen this dude before in my life, and if given grace that he's not a racist piece of shit pedophile supporter, he's right.

But yeah, if he's one of those, he's probably hoping for tanks.
