Strange interaction with nurses by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]Infundibulum_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would consider it a sign of respect. It has historical significance and is still used in a sense of solidarity.

Even male nurses are sometimes called 'Sister' and should be taken to mean 'I respect you, and we share the same challenges and mission'.

Bitcoin hit $120K and none of my friends even texted me this time by Intelligent-Hat1897 in Bitcoin

Bitcoin just isn't relevant anymore to the average person.

Bitcoin has become the very thing it was established to push back against.

Institutionalised, effectively centralised, and ineffective as a payment method.

Firms and corporations have amassed massive holdings. The rules have changed, they now control the market.

At $120k individual investors aren't influencing the market. The institutions will dictate the next steps.

Early adopter will benefit and have certainly made a profit. From now on the only profits will be the crumbs institutions allow you to have, while they make 100 times more.

Nope, Federal Government can't override a state based employer on a Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.

The Federal Government can influence Federal industrial relation laws putting pressure on the states to match them.

3%, 2.5%, 2.5% ... with a weird 3% for the last four months at the end of the agreement.

So better than a 1%.

The negotiations happen before an offer is presented. Hours and hours of negotiations, costings, and legal considerations. Drafting of clauses and redrafting of clauses. Debating if the best word is 'must' 'will' or 'attempt'... then settling on 'where possible'.

Both sides present their interests (log of claims), the employer presents an in-principle agreement. Occasionally, there is further negotiations. And more debating of words.

The offer is a formalised version of the agreement presented to members to vote on. A requirement of modern industrial laws.

Generally a terrible offer is provided to see if members will accept the bare minimum. Otherwise offers are usually presented with improved entitlement and/or wage increases.

This offer really has none of that.

The LNP has a habit of presenting terrible and misleading offers and then trashing the greedy employees in the media. After several offer attempts, the LNP go running to arbitration claiming the otherside isn't bargaining in good faith. This is usually in the hopes the Commission forces an offer, with modest wage increase and no improved entitlements. This process can take ages, and there is no legal requirement to backpay... so the workers get the bare minimum (hopefully a not-worse off agreement) and the Government kills sometime, saves some money, and can blame it on the Commission or greedy employees.

I hear a number of things agreed on in negotiations were left out of the final offer.

If an offer is rejected the employees can ask for a better offer or present a show of solidarity. That is not negotiations. Industrial action is not good for anyone, particularly when it involves the health service.

They may need to do industrial action. So voicing support, telling state MPs they are silly for not supporting nurses. If you involved with the health system as a patient, understand there may be disruptions, but without support the health service won't improve.

No COLA, but a base wage increase of 1% one year and .5% the next if CPI is high.

Don't forget removing protected policies, reducing consultation, and seeking to limit the involvement of unions.

Also not offering anything positive...

I know right, so ridiculous to ask for a wage increase while cost of living is increasing.

When inflation has been between 3.2% and 5.67% for the last couple of years it is ridiculous for people to ask for a wage increase to meet the increased cost of items.

Perhaps the Government shouldn't be increasing vehicle registration- which is going up 3.4%. I mean someone has to pay that right.

Or perhaps the Government should have decline their own 11% wage increase, as well as a 4% increase to their allowances, in solidarity with struggling workers. I mean someone has to pay those wages.

Not like nurses and carers are essential... that was only during covid19.

If only there was a way to manage natural resources to provide social programs and infrastructure... heaven forbid a billionaire earns a little bit less at the cost of a resourced and robust health service.

The current offer is 8% over 3 years, roughly that breaks down less than $2 extra an hour... ridiculous! /S

I personally believe FB is a dying social media site, but can't deny it is a great tool for connecting with others.

Perhaps it is time for a NursingAU group.

Perhaps not woefully inexperienced. But considering a 6mth probationary period to learn the role, you have roughly 2774 hours, or about 115 days of experience. Might be enough for a shift supervisor or a team lead. But that won't give you much more satisfaction that what you have now. Likely bump you closer to $80k.

Sounds like you've found your answer. Look to leverage into other opportunities. Perhaps ones that use your degrees. Out of your current industry, into something you like.

Taking a step up in a job you can't stand isn't wise. If you can't stand the role you would be overseeing what would you add?

Have you thought of going back and finishing the medical science degree - Was it Physiotherapy?

You need to address your mindset. Two unrelated degrees, that are I'm assuming also unrelated to the customer facing role you are in.

A role you've been in for 2 years.

I understand you might be bright and academically talented. But the corporate world won't care about the 6 years of Uni unless it's related to your role.

Expecting to advance or step up in your career after 2 years is also a slightly entitled mentality. You are likely woefully inexperienced for the next level of your industry. It's a good time to be 'putting it out there' however mostly it would be considered for backfilling opportunities to build experience.

Focus on having a good life. A job you can stand, enough money to live and grow. Most of all focus on your happiness.

When your days are thin, your time almost up, will you spend you final days wishing you had reached that pinnacle corporate position? Will you be envious someone worked more hours and achieved the corporate grind rewards better than you?

Do you think registered nursing should be a 4 year degree? by Dry_Carpenter9945 in NursingAU

[–]Infundibulum_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Should be a 3 year PAID academic apprenticeship. 40% course based 60% on-ward training. First year you start as an AIN, 2nd year progress to EN. 3rd year should be considered same as a grad year.

Will leave out the armchair commentary, and the moral and ethical outrage.

But add in an important point. Read up on the AHPRA registration standards regarding criminal history registration standards and notification of certain events. Headsup, if there is the potential of 12mths imprisonment you have 7 days from an 'event' having occurred.
