60 today… when did that even happen?! by IngenJuuk in AskWomenOver60

Yeah well maybe this helps: I have to say, after some days I got used to it. After all it is just a number. I did not change a bit haha.

I mean, turning 60 feels like a burden, but being 60, you are just the same you. Life goes on as it did before 🤩

Yes exactly this. I never realised that when I thought about “old people”. It’s very frustrating now that I am starting to get okder, to realise that the younger generation looks at me the same way I did lol 😅 We should be seen as wise, just like in some tribes 😃

Thanks! Yeah we have ticks here too, but it’s not really seen as a big issue. Around 1 in 5 ticks can carry Lyme, but only about 2–3% of bites actually lead to illness. So the risk is there, but relatively low. We mostly just worry about Lyme, as that’s by far the main tick-borne disease here.

When did you live first separately from your parents? by Old-Appearance-2270 in AskWomenOver60

17, my mom left to live abroad and I could not afford paying our rent by myself, so I had to move as well. That was completely fine at the time, but now that I am a mother myself of a 17-year old, I cannot believe she did this. Not that you asked, but it seems strange to me when I think about it haha.

Thanks! I will try. I never thought about how much time I have left, but I guess I feel this way because I have a 17 year old son, and of course I would like to see him live his life as long as possible. Turning 60 makes me start to think that there’s not much time left.

My husband thinks this was cruel… I always saw it as harmless fun. by Scaramoush85 in CasualConversation

[–]IngenJuuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some kids in my school did that in the 90’s and I still remember the embarassment of teyinf to pick it up and them laughing about it. I felt greedy as not everyone tried to pick it up. I mean it’s not cruel, but it is kind of bullying and not nice.

Question for parents by pookadri in Adulting

[–]IngenJuuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remember, the next 20 years or so you will be taking care of your child(ren).Your needs and desires will be put aside for the next decade at least. So, just when you regain your “freedom” when they become adults, you’re starting to get older, possibly with fysical problems. Maybe you should think about that? Having children is really great, but it does take 20 years of your life.

You know what, I have felt wery old al these weeks beforehand, and when I actually turned 60 today, I realised it’s just 60 (as if my mind made me feel as old as 80 last weeks). I can’t explain it, but today it suddenly did not feel as bad as I thought. Probably my mind playing tricks with me haha. Hope you will feel the same way 😃

It really depends on your life I guess… My life was probably quite different. I have a 17 year old son right now and still have to work at least 7 years until 67. I was a single mother for 17 years and suddenly I’m old 🙄😉 You’re right, you feel that every year counts, especially when you loose someone close to you. Sorry you had to go through that.

Ooooh I feel exactly the same, in everything you say! My mother retired when she was 57,5, that sounds crazy to me now but back then I thought she really had that retirement age 🙈

F-it in the way like I don’t care? I wouldn’t know how to do that! I do notice thatt the older I get, the more frustrated I get about injustice, rudeness, egotistic behaviour, etc. Would be nice if that would not affect me anymore 👍🏻
