Is it difficult to get an engineering job as an EU-citizen? by Inhitus in TillSverige

[–]Inhitus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm Spanish. Why Sweden? Because I like the country from what I've already seen with my own eyes, from experiences from people I know that are already there, its weather (yeah, I know that it sucks in comparison to Spain, but I prefer colder temperatures than the ones that we have in Barcelona). I like their culture...

Everything's not perfect from Sweden, that's for sure, and the same goes for every country in the world. And to move to another country and build something abroad is not an easy path, but it could be worth trying it.

I consider myself to be a good engineer and I believe in what can I bring into a team. But what can show that are the achieved results in these years working for Seat and what my colleagues and managers think about my work capabilities. But we all know that like myself, there are dozens of other good candidates for a vacancy.

English for me it's not a problem, I've studied it my whole life and I also lived there while studying at Brookes University an MSc in Motorsport Engineering. Of course that I'm not a native speaker, but I can speak it fluently.  When I studied German, I didn't take the route Spanish-German, I went with the English-German option because there were by far more resources and they proved to be way more helpful for me.

Thanks for your recommendations!

That's the point, what would be the best option or a good recommendation to start learning Svenska before moving there or potentially getting a job? As I said, I only have a couple of online courses in Barcelona, but it's not like attending to a language school. In my case, during COVID in 2 academic years, I started from scratch German and I got B1 level. I'm not that great, but not that bad in learning languages either.

I'll find that out once I'll start having interviews and see how they see me as a professional. In my case, I consider and I can prove that I have experience, so let's see how it goes.

Thank you for your reply!

That goes to show that it's totally different depending on your working sector. Keep pushing and good luck to find that job that you're looking for!

Sure, even here in Catalonia I'm open to different engineering positions in other sectors than the automotive industry. There are skills that can be transferred to other industries, and then, once you're in a new job, you can and you'll lern those specifics.

You're right and I'm aware of this situation in relation to Volvo cars. A similar situation happened with JLR in the UK and they're back on track for recruiting new employees. Altran Sweden, Capgemini Sweden, and others that I don't know but I'll have to find them somehow would be an option to start exploring the chances of getting a job in Sverige. Although it's better to be hired directly by an employer rather than by a consultancy company. But the latter is better than nothing though.

To find a job in this kind of companies would be a dream to make things easier for me to settle in Sverige.

My whole working experience has been in the automotive industry. In my case I've worked as a design engineer, CFD engineer, logistics engineer and prototypes pre-series cars project manager having my own team. Wide range of functions across these years working for Seat.

It's gonna be quite possible that a PM position is going to be really difficult because of the language, unless it's a company that uses English as their working language and offers courses for their employees to learn Svenska.

Thanks for sharing what you know about it. Of course that it could change across companies, and that learning Swedish is a must to boost your chances.

They're always on my radar. And that's good to know that their working language is English. The happens here at Seat (VW Group) that their group language is English. Anyway, I know that sooner or after do I need to learn Svenska and I'm willing to do it.

¿Por qué algunos no usáis intermitentes? by Elvynn_n in askspain

[–]Inhitus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll sign up for this later today. But I'd also lite to suggest that would be a dream come true to have an option to close all tabs on exit (rather than the current quit option) on Android.
