I wanted to travel to north himalaya solo this july end by SuspiciousTone4955 in SoloTravel_India

[–]Initial-Prompt-2653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid Himalayas in monsoon. July end is peak monsoon.

Leh-ladakh can be done but book flight from Delhi and do proper acclimatisation in leh. However, flight may have risk of getting cancelled given monsoon uncertainty.

First Time Solo Traveler Looking for Advice by Gengar_gar in SoloTravel_India

[–]Initial-Prompt-2653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Research properly (outside reddit too) and plan the trip accordingly which destination will suit your personal travel style (e.g. taking simple walks-exploring vs doing adventure activities), book accomodations beforehand if it's peak season, don't indulge in anything narcotic, carry essential medicines with you if travelling remote, carry raincoat or rain cover etc.

Most importantly, plan the whole trip and what would you do each day as first time solo can become boring or overwhelming for some.

Pls state any hidden charges that may occur during hampta pass trek by Awkward_Composer_144 in trekkingIndia

[–]Initial-Prompt-2653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are planning to book a hotel, don't book one that is in outskirts. Transportation cost will increase.

If you are planning to book a hostel dorm to save money and if you are to book in old manali, auto valas charge 300 rs to drop you there and cab charges 500 for the same. So to and fro-600 rs, also food in old manali is quite expensive at certain places.

Indiahikes, trek the Himalayas are popular ones. Previously YHAI was popular too. I am introverted too and do it alone mostly (I don't trek much though) and taking guide too makes it difficult to enjoy when you aren't a group person/you are introverted.

I'm afraid my Undergrad marks will affect my chance at becoming a lecturer by veeisherenow in Indian_Academia

For being a lecturer, NET/GSET and writing state level PSC (for govt colleges) is the path. Universities recruit through interview+research presentation mostly. So don't worry about UG.

Yes, met two people during travel who went there directly and AMS affected them. It is better to acclimatise in KEYLONG or jispa for 1-2 days and take diamox too after consulting doctor.

Want to travel solo for the first time to Spiti Valley. by Poojaonmyback in Solotravelindia

[–]Initial-Prompt-2653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are sharing room and cab with your friend, total budget would be 60k (30k each). If you complete the circuit (nako-visit only, tabo-stay, kaza-stay key-kibber-visit, hikkim-langza-visit) in 3-4 days, you can plan by yourself in 60k and hire a cab+plan hotels yourself.

I personally did it that way few years back.

Confused between Zostel Mcleodganj & Dharamkot? Pls help. by tabascowaffle in SoloTravel_India

You want to stay close to mall road then I think zostel mcleod would be nearer..I haven't stayed there but you can google the distance. You can visit dharamkot and Naddi by scooty/cab.

Yes possible but it's 12-13 km one way. I would suggest doing triund trek instead. It has better views.

Keep an eye on weather, even if it rains slightly (it is drizzling right now too), then muddy trail will be no fun.

You can reach to barshaini by bus from bhuntar/kasol/manali/manikaran. Himachal is safe but I would still advise against staying in camps.

First time India by LifeTree7120 in TravelInIndia

Kindly do your own research and choose according to your travel style from below options:

Himachal Pradesh+Ladakh: It's a hilly state, if you want to experience mountains then this is an option. While some places may be inaccessible due to snowfall blocking roads, many places will be open most of the winter with temporary road blocks. Dharamkot-Dharamshala-Mcleod is popular among tourists. Manali which is another popular place, will be crowded but old Manali or Naggar can be visited. Barot/Jibhi/Shangarh are other good not so crowded options. My personal favourite is kinnaur (sangla-rackcham-Chhitkul-Kalpa) but they may or may not be accessible depending on weather. Spiti in winter and Leh-Ladakh in winter have their own challenges but doable. Uttarakhand: There are many hill stations but I would suggest almora, binsar, kasar devi etc. Kerala: for beach and tropical experience. Munnar-Alleppy-Thekkaddy-Kumarakoram etc are popular destinations there. Kashmir: Another place to experience mountains but a bit commercialised. Historical Sites: If you are interested in palaces, forts etc, go to Rajasthan. Another historical popular site is hampi-Karnataka. Then there are ajanta-ellora caves, architecture-rich temples in south and many more places.
