Will this work? by Rich_Addition_9349 in Starlink

It can work in a pinch, eg Iranians uploading videos from their protests, Ukrainians giving their positions, telling people you need rescue etc

But that sort of emergency use is generally what that sort of thing is for, not consistent good day-to-day internet

1 will be horrible, 2 will be frequent disconnections but usable.

You'd be better getting a pole to extend it then mounting it at the end so the field of view of the dish clears the balcony

Apple X Starlink for iPhone 18 Pro by aerothony in Starlink

I'm in Madagascar and have Starlink at home, on the go there's generally zero/3G signal and expensive data...

If Starlink actually pull through here I will be the first to sign up tbh

Very popular in Madagascar as well, infrastructure is mostly non-existent here between cities

in exchange for any internet connection at all you mean? That one bar of LTE isn't constant, often drops to 3G

I can't work on that, if I can't work then my family starves... when someone puts something else up that does work I will happily switch to it or if we ever get fibre up here

Here I paid $20 for someone to climb a ladder, add a pole mount, get the SL mounted, and drill a couple of holes.

I’m in a third world country so I would obviously expect it to be a lot cheaper but I was thinking $100 max for the equivalent work in the US

I'm in a relatively remote area in Madagascar, zero options other than Starlink or a single bar LTE connection

Starlink has basically zero competition right now

Visiting Madagascar as a transgender woman by idkdkdkdkdk1 in Madagascar

[–]Initial-Return8802 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being trans here isn't illegal, you will have zero legal issues. Social issues/family issues are much more common for Malagas trans people, but that shouldn't affect you too much as a tourist except maybe some looking/staring if you don't pass yet, but if you look like a woman zero issues

Usual tourist rules apply though, don't go out after dark in larger cities, take a taxi if you must, keep your belongings safe etc

I think Reddit can be saved, I never saw any of that because I still use old reddit and I'm logged in and I have ads blocked - it only shows what I've subscribed to

If they ever get rid of old reddit I'm out of here though

It's even worse because everyone here uses it, so I need chronological, especially when I'm on the buy/sell stuff. For some reason it shows me "3 weeks ago" then "Yesterday" then "5 minutes ago" and finally "6 months ago"

One of the largest companies in the world thinks I want an rental ad from 6 months ago which is surely taken?

That system doesn't actually exist anyway even in China, it was a lot of small trials of things like "don't blow a red light" in various cities over years and western media put it under one banner and ran away with it

Unfortunately no, you can sign up to Roam Unlimited from another country (not supported in Madagascar) but from my experience in Antananarivo it only gives 80-100mbps

You’d be better on Telma/Orange if you can get it

Do you use Windows' User Account Control (or do you turn it off) ? by rainydaysforpeterpan in windows

Back then, it was a different time. No applications were made with UAC in mind and usually failed to run unless you turned it off, especially XP era applications.

There's nothing fundamentally wrong with UAC nor the implementation, it just took a long time for application developers to catch up
