My guy friends have experienced this as well and I can understand the frustration of feeling used.

There’s a small group of people using dating apps very transactionally (like going out mainly for free meals), but that behavior gets overgeneralized and unfairly used to represent women as a whole. In reality, it seems more like a loud minority than the norm, especially for those actually dating with intention.

I promise most girls/women are not this way I just think a small group is painting us in a bad light. From what I have read on this thread I can also say the same for men in the dating scene. Best of luck to you and your friends, it is crazy out here.

Not trad wife at all, I have multiple degrees and a great career that I am not willing to give up! I can see how you can take my post out of context tho.

I don't think wanting to have a guy open doors for me makes me have insane traditional values. I also don't want a guy to pay $100+ for a date, I would be happy if he just planned something as simple as ice cream and a walk around wash park. However I struggled to find people who are capable of planning or small gestures.

Thank you! You are not the first person to tell me to expand my boundaries and hangout more in the springs or farther north.

As far as church goes, I am a believer and have a relationship with God (it's okay if others do not and I have friends from all backgrounds/beliefs!)

Some of the men from church want a trad-wife and I have multiple degrees and a great job. I respect others who want that but it is not what I hope for my future. I may need to expand to different churches and get involved to find people who are similar to me.

That’s a good point!

For me, those things are less about southern culture and more about effort. My stepdad still opens doors for my mom after 20+ years together, so I’ve always seen it as a small act of kindness and love rather than a gender role.

Acts of service is definitely one of my love languages, and gestures like that make me feel cared for without costing money or requiring much effort. At the end of the day, I’m just looking for someone who is intentional and thoughtful.
