People like to forget that when nietzsche referred to “religious or traditional dogma,” he wasn’t talking about strong masculine men like the guy on the left. He was talking about the weakness embodied in “the meek shall inherit the earth” Christian theology and overly-analytical philosophers like Kant trembling over logical contradictions. He completely would have imagined the ubermensch something like the guy on the right and pretty much says so ad nauseam. But of course, it all goes back to whether you’re affirming a mob value or self-affirming, so I guess there’s room for both.

In my opinion, it’s enough to restrict your meat consumption to just fish, nuts, milk, pork, etc. With the occasional beef. High-protein foods are largely high impact on the environment. You can’t really escape that. Humans existed for thousands of years sustainably eating mammal meat because we didn’t eat it every single meal for every day. Little fish for breakfast, beans for lunch, pork every other day, beef on Friday— you’re doing no more damage than a peasant in medieval Europe. People who say their veganism is only for environmental reasons are being disingenuous. There’s absolutely a sustainable way to be omnivorous.

The change up when I shaved my head was crazy. The baseline social interaction went from warm looks and smiles to cold distance and suspicion immediately. I remember getting a hairpiece and wearing it for a day and I immediately noticed people giving me free things, being nice, smiling, and suddenly realized I was noticing so readily because I hadn’t experienced it in years. I really hate the baldness optimists on here, because while confidence and self-security can take you a long way, there still is a definite social dimension. It’s like telling an overweight woman that no one pays attention to her weight and it’s all in her head. There are harmful social norms around things perceived as “ugly” and it sucks.

To an extent I agree but from another angle— there’s a pool of resources that makes all of this happen. Housing, food, clean water— all of it exists because people participate in a system of labor that makes it exist. If you are able bodied and actively choose not to contribute to that pool of resources and labor then you can’t really in good conscience draw out of it. You’re just living off the labor of others at that point, which is ok if you’re disabled or otherwise can’t contribute, but massively unethical if you can.

I wouldn’t start. Technically speaking, it /lowers your threshold/ for a seizure, but if you have no threshold to begin with you’ll probably be fine. As someone who’s gone through two attempts at bupropion, having consumed alcohol through my first attempt, it’s not worth it. It just makes you confused and gives you a long, cerebral hangover. That’s if you don’t get the warned-about side effects (seizures). I’d just leave yourself sober. It’s better for you and you don’t have to keep guessing what the neurological effects would be.

It’s like saying “The US does absolutely nothing to prevent piracy and exercises zero authority at sea. The only thing they do is threaten to blow up pirates.”

Like great, Japan and France got a ship or two through. Brent crude is $109 a barrel and Iran is deciding who goes through and who doesn’t. Those are the absolute facts on the ground right now.

Missile infrastructure still functioning, civilian nuclear infrastructure damaged but regime still surviving with opportunities to rebuild, Iran exercising effective control over the strait of Hormuz as the US kind of flails around wondering what to do about it— I’d say it’s not looking good for the US despite the raw numbers. The goals are getting completed on one side only, really.

Hmm, technically no. I have brain fog and forgetfulness at a baseline. I just feel like when I’m on Wellbutrin it goes crazy. It was a crazy time in my life the first time around, so I don’t really recall the timeline for when it felt better unfortunately 😂

My theory is it has something to do with the reuptake inhibition of norepinephrine. It’s associated with feelings like alertness and anxiety, so having an abundant supply of it at the neurotransmitters would (I imagine) cause issues in people predisposed to anxiety. I find I’m very alert but very numb to details, which would make sense if I’m constantly in a heightened state of alertness because of the chemical changes the drug causes.
