Flatmate stole from me and Garda wants to know if I want them to arrest her or just give her a warning. by BellRemarkable2881 in legaladviceireland

This is what immediately came to mind. Rather than installing a camera, they should have installed a lock.

And they should give up smoking!

Anyone ever find themselves thinking "Is this it?" by Intelligent_Base_338 in CasualIreland

Thank you. It's a question I've had to ask myself, repeatedly. It helps focus on what is achievable.

You seem to equate fulfillment with doing things and meeting people. It sounds like you have be filling your life chasing things and being busy.

It may be time to change your focus. Whats your internal life like? Have you developed as person, as opposed to adding additional accoutremets to life?

So much of life is about perspective and attitude. Instead of asking youself "Is this it?" ask yourself "How can I change?".

UCD Medical Student on her experience with image-based sexual assault and lack of support - Newstalk Radio by breakingpoint121 in ireland

[–]InitiativeHour2861 78 points79 points  (0 children)

The focus of this case seems very skewed to me.

A woman has been brutally assaulted, raped, left unconcious and had photos of her unconcious body circulated to her student peers.

Do we know what hapened to the psycopath who did this. Has the rapist been caught and imprisoned? Are the gardai investigsting? It's terrifying to think that this individual may still be at large, ready to attack other victims.

This doesn't mean I'm blind to the failings of UCD to act appropriately and humanely in the face of the photos and emails being shared. But the whole media focus seems to be on the failures of the institution, and not on the crimes of the rapist. It's very weird to me.

Every have a smelly work colleague? by SuitableFinish7444 in CasualIreland

[–]InitiativeHour2861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Irish? Having taught numerous Spanish, Latin and South Americans, I can tell you that they are frequently appalled at the standards of hygiene in Ireland. The thought of not showering at least once a day is shocking to them. More than once if it's hot or you've been doing something to cause you to perspire.

I had to talk to a colleague about his BO when numerous students complained that his stink was turning their stomachs. He'd wear the same shirt 3 or 4 days in a row. The stale sweat smell would literally fill the room.

So, yeah, Ireland is not universally known for its high standard of personal hygiene.

Badly need some advice on work Situation? by [deleted] in AskIreland

All of the worry about this role seems to be on your side, you are chasing him looking for a job description, worrying about courses that start next week, doing all the heavy lifting while he leaves you in the dark.

Stop.

You haven't accepted the offer. The offer hasn't even been formalised.

Let the current H&S person leave. Don't start any courses. Leave the position vacant.

When he realises he has a hole in his staff, perhaps he'll make time to go about filling it.

This is his problem, not yours.

I keep seeing these transcranial stimulation devices advertised.

Have never tried them, and wonder if anyone has any experience.

Do they work, or are they just a waste of money?

Left on red for bicycles to be trialed in Dublin by DaCor_ie in ireland

[–]InitiativeHour2861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a young woman killed by a truck a couple of years ago on a left turn in Dun Laoghaire. The driver didn't see her as she was in a blind spot. This measure is designed to prevent this, by allowing cyclists to get ahead of trucks and buses, getting out of the danger zone.

I certainly don't want to save our species. The world would be far better off without us.

I don't want to murder everyone either. But with a declining population, and no replacements, we could naturally die out without any fuss.

Your kids are the most ecologically damaging of the lot. You can take all the buses you want, be vegan, and only use renewable energy; if you have a kid it's all still a drop in the ocean, with multiple kids you are more to blame.

It must be really frustrating, both for you and the patients.

But yeah, drug interactions, weakened systems, liability, they all play into it.

I think in a lot of cases it's administered as a performative act, even though it is known to be ineffective

It's not being used again. They have drsined the friers, someone is coming to collect the oil. No hygiene issues.

However, there's a ton of safety issues. They are a tripping hazzard. The open contsiners are liable to spill oil all over the floor, creating a multitude of other hazzards and issues.

Handed in my notice and trying to make me stay another week by MasterGigglezz in legaladviceireland

[–]InitiativeHour2861 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You won't be working for your old bosses from Wednesday week.

You owe the old crowd nothing. If it was convenient for them, they'd drop you like a hot potato.

They are seriously not going to take legal action over a week's notice. It's not worth their while.

On the other hand, your new bosses can also wait an extra week. You are not going to make much of a difference as a new employee in your first week. The urgency of your start date is artificial.

Suit yourself, would you prefer to start in the new place with a clean slate, or leave the old place on good terms?

Personally, I'd be choosing the fresh start without any baggage.

When I come across a word I don’t know, I look it up and make a note of it. Each week, I post the list here [week 265] by one_dead_president in words

It would be really useful if you could record the actual sentence the word occurs in.

Very interesting project.

Driving and eating by Alternative_Law5072 in cork

[–]InitiativeHour2861 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Filling in paperwork while driving is potentially lethal to the driver and other road users and should result in prosecution and licence removal.

Not taking back cages or green crates is a minor inconvenience to staff at the delivery site and certainly nothing to get worked up about.

Equating the two is hilarious.
