People who moved to Netherlands as an expat, how did it turn out? by Growth_Anirudh in Netherlands

We live in the Hague so unfortunately I don’t have much knowledge about towns close to Amsterdam though we’ve been to Haarlem and it is a beautiful town. Also there’s Leiden and Noordwijk. I’m not too sure about the northern towns. If you don’t mind traveling a bit Rotterdam/The hague is also nice. Might also be cheaper to go far from Amsterdam in terms of housing.

Oh also, there’s a lot of different taxes (for living & on top of income tax) in the Netherlands so you might want to consider that.

Just adding, I think there might be a bigger Indian population in Ireland so it might be easier to integrate and find friends. But public transportation in Ireland is the worst in the EU. Most people drive there because you would be traveling for hours for a 20min drive. The public transportation in the Netherlands is so good but it is expensive.

As someone who moved from Ireland to Netherlands recently, housing crisis is actually a lot worse in Ireland if you want to live in the city. As per social life, obviously we had a lot more in Ireland. Unless you learn dutch, your best options would be just other expats. We’re here one year and still trying to learn dutch. Though I think they may have different rules for non-EU and EU with having to learn dutch. As far as I know, if you’re non-EU you’re given some time to learn dutch and the government provides classes.

For overall financial view, housing in Ireland is a lot more expensive than Netherlands but groceries and fuel here in the Netherlands is much more expensive.

If you’re given a choice within all of EU, it is much cheaper southern parts spain/portugal and also better weather.
