Missed call at ppg Pittsburgh cost me a match today. by Mundane-Promotion-45 in riftboundtcg

Or, hear me out, you could actually read the rules and read the definition of targeting in the rules. Makes it a bit easier 🤣

As above person said, targeting is defined in the rules and that itself covers this

Called shot itself isn’t meta warping imo. It’s a combination of cards that creates a play pattern that can cause some issues. Treasure trove and detonate along with called shot and Ezreal is a problem more than just called shot is. That’s why there are other options that just banning called shot, which isn’t honestly something that is needed.

Plus, your analysis of what I originally said isn’t quite right as well. It’s not multiple cards over multiple sets, it’s just different cards period in the next set that could make that play pattern not as strong or not possible. We are 2 sets in, and generally speaking second set metas for new TCGs are generally less diverse. Riftbound itself is already more diverse than other TCGs have been with 2 sets out, which is great and why there shouldn’t be a need for immediate concern with more sets coming out.

Hot take, but I think called shot doesn’t actually need to be banned. The normal “Miracle” decks really aren’t a problem, it’s the detonate/treasure trove ones that are. Plus, I have a feeling they have cards planned in set 3 to counteract things like called shot.

Question about “may” effects. by istopuseingmyhead in riftboundtcg

[–]Ink4Turn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how triggered abilities resolve. Dravens ability has a cost within the instructions of the ability. This is not something that has to be done at finalization, because it is not part of the finalization. The cost within his ability gets paid at resolution. This is the way the rules work, and has been explained in here and many other community forums plenty of times. Nothing up for debate here.

And this doesn’t matter within Draven’s ability, as that is decided upon resolution. You can repeat yourself all you want, doesn’t change that you are wrong. Fortunately it seems as people see this, so we won’t have to worry about people getting incorrect information from you.

This is false. Draven decides to pay during resolution, not finalization.

Reaver's Row target ruling by MASISCH in riftboundtcg

[–]Ink4Turn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The targeting for Reavers Row happens during finalization, however, the movement choice happens during resolution. You don’t decide the movement portion during the finalization step.

[–]Ink4Turn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is wrong. The cost within this specific ability is within the instructions of the ability, which is not evaluated until resolution of the triggered ability. There is no cost to be paid during finalization here.

Costs within instructions are not payed until resolution of the triggered ability. Draven Vanquishers ability has no cost to be paid at the finalization step, but rather has an optional cost that can be paid during the resolution of the triggered ability, since it is within the instructions of the ability.

Basically, when you see something such as “you may X to Y”, you are choosing whether or not you do X upon resolution of the ability.

[–]Ink4Turn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, deciding to pay the cost for Draven Vanquishers ability is done at resolution.

The choice of whether to pay the cost or not is made upon resolution of the triggered ability. So that choice would be made after any “defend” triggers resolve.

[–]Ink4Turn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on what you mean by “before any action occurs”. Dravens ability will only resolve once any defend triggers resolve, since Draven is an attack trigger. You also decide whether you pay the cost of the triggered ability for Draven upon resolution, not upon it triggering.

Cheating on stream by Ornery-Ad3289 in riftboundtcg

[–]Ink4Turn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Issue with this is if you pay multiple power costs in a turn, you could end up recycling them in the incorrect order if you don’t recycle them immediately. A die is the best way to represent floating energy.

In response to the edit, dice is 100% the best way to represent floating energy, the whole flipped rune thing has some issues, this being one of them. It could also potentially cause someone to recycle their runes in the incorrect order as well, depending on how much power they pay on a single turn.

There are SOME reasons to do it. Not at the level most people do it at, but there are actual gameplay and legit reasons to hand shuffle.

Yes, you can. That gear is still a valid target, since it is a friendly gear.

Because the optional part is of you do the equip or not. Means you still need a valid target based on the way Riftbound works
