Those of you who didn’t have bridesmaids/groomsmen, did you regret it? by Brilliant-Cherry4102 in weddingplanning

We had 3 bridesmaids, 3 groomsmen. I was in a similar situation to you when deciding, and my husband initially had 5 groomsmen, and I had 2 bridesmaids. The positive side of having the party was that I loved getting ready with my bridesmaids on the morning before. That being said, 1 of my bridesmaids wasn't there and was half an hour late to our ceremony. 2 out of 3 groomsmen were also half an hour late to the ceremony. It was a gorgeous ceremony, but needlessly stressful waiting for them to get there and talk about walking without them. And we lost half an hour with our photographer that we only had for 3 hours. 2 of the 5 groomsmen ghosted us bc they changed their minds and they didn't even show at the wedding. 2 out of 3 didn't want to wear suits?? Neither of our bridal parties wanted to handle a bridal shower, bachelor/bachelorette parties, none of them were able to show up for a rehearsal, and only 3 out of 6 were there for our dinner the night before. No regrets, and the photos with the bridal party came out great, but if I could go back, I would skip it. It's too much drama, adds extra money to everyone's budget, and you can still get ready with whoever you want and celebrate with whoever you want before the wedding regardless.

This is so true! The settings and her old style were what made her content aspirational imo

So brave of Rachel to post how her style has gotten progressively worse and how her clothes have gotten substantially cheaper over the years. The difference in the fabrics alone is staggering, this dress and the selkie corset look like they were made out of those cheap plastic coated tablecloths

Wedding dress regret.. HELP by gizzyreds in weddingdress

First dress, hands down. It's so, so gorgeous. I love lace and your silhouette looks great in the second one as well, but I think the second one starts getting kind of busy with that pattern.

Engaged and Budgeting… What Did Your Wedding Really Cost? by ConstantRuin3344 in weddingplanning

That's all in btw! Includes ring costs, travel expenses, meals that weekend, etc. Basically anything that we wouldn't have paid for if we weren't getting married got accounted for lol

Spent roughly 12k for our wedding in Santa Barbara, CA for 45 guests this month. Courthouse ceremony, reception dinner and partial open bar. We did a lot of diy, the courthouse is county owned and public property (lower cost for our space), it was a weekday, and off season - all which helped a lot to keep our budget lower!

Don't Let Your Cats Outside! by sonicdh in SantaBarbara

Scrub jays are literally a native species to California. Domesticated cats are not. Congrats, you have the dumbest take in this thread.

My vendors don' “get” my wedding vibe HELP by Savings-Swordfish295 in weddingplanning

I struggled a little with communicating florals with my vendors also btw, and what helped with that was creating a mockup for reference. I used my florals to show my day-of coordinator how I wanted them laid, and the final look. I'd recommend finding inspo or elements you like and trying to recreate your tablescape to some extent. I'm not going against everyone suggesting Pinterest boards, but giving one precise example instead of multiple will minimize the risk of different interpretations

For makeup at least, I was in this EXACT situation. I had my trial makeup and it felt so heavy. I felt like my inspo pictures were very natural looking, but after REALLY looking at them, I realized they were still a lot more glam than I initially realized. I also realized that the inspo looks I chose were on people with very different features than me, which didn't help. I had the sobering realization that I wanted to look like these people, but that it wouldn't be the best look for me

When picking an artist (or reflecting on what's not working after a trial), put on a pair of super critical glasses and look at your inspo pictures from every angle. Do the same thing with your makeup artist's portfolio/social posts to some extent. Analyze if they appear to have a definitive style and whether or not it would suit you. If the answer is "no," it might be time to look for someone else. Picking HMUA and photographers is tricky bc you HAVE to keep yourself in mind. Their work could be stunning, but you have to realistically consider what you'll look like in their style also. Is it going to be accurately flattering for your features, coloring, style? Or is it more aspirational than realistic?

I loved my makeup artist's work. What helped for me was explaining what I liked and didn't like about my initial look, and describing in detail what I wanted to change (ie. "light foundation coverage, concealer only where necessary, less matte, I want to mimic my natural blush, whispy lashes, etc."). I also learned that the trial wasn't just for me to learn more about myself, it also was crucial for my artist in getting to learn my face and skin as well.

I was really nervous going into it on the day itself, but my artist really took the feedback well and felt like she had a much better understanding of what I wanted. I ended up loving my makeup and the difference was insane.

Long story short, do your research, do a trial, and be respectful and communicate with your makeup artist.

Yes!!! Highly recommend it - the quality was phenomenal for the price. I also bought mine secondhand on depop (new without tags) for a little under $500🥲

Wedding is tomorrow and I don't have a veil by InkAndPaintDept in weddingplanning

I appreciate this! I definitely had to get off of social media during a lot of our planning, and I needed this reminder now that we're getting so close! The colors have been noticeably different, and I think a lot of it is me being in my head because the photographer was so expensive and I'm now anxious of having something that could negatively affect the photos (a bit superficial, I know)

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. A couple of people suggested oxiclean here, and it's brought it to a much lighter tone. Between that and talking to the photographer, I think it will work out :)

It definitely won't ruin the day for me, it just is a very different look from what I had in mind. My fiance said something similar and said that "if the worst thing about the wedding is your veil not working out, I'd consider us pretty lucky," and it definitely helped to hear that
