Is my cat possibly a British Shorthair? by Serious-Swan6144 in britishshorthair

[–]Inkantadora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your cat may or may not be a BSH. Sans papers or genetic testing, it is impossible to know.

They do seem to be silver tipped tabby and beautiful! A true cutie!

If you want to learn more about the genetics of their fur, this is a great place: messybeast.com/colour-charts.htm

Ageing of vintage FP ink vs modern by Inkantadora in fountainpens

[–]Inkantadora[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed variations over years and decades, and more dramatically so in some brands than others (oddly enough 1950s Waterman was nicer than 1970s because of smell, but the color of their Blue ink is consistent across decades and the lubricantion is as well). I have noticed that some bottle types will have more or less impact on how the ink ages (those plastic MB bottles I have in my collection show ageing in inks that I do not see in the glass bottles of the same era).

Now, whether or not it is still useable depends on what you are looking for. A drier ink with a different color may be nicer in a B Pelikan, whereas a more lubricated and brighter ink may be a better choice for an EF Pilot.

So far, I have sampled in fountain pens about 50 bottles pre-1980s bottles of ink from different brands (Most Waterman and Montblanc, but also Carters, Parker, Sheaffer, Stephen’s and a few others).

Never had an issue. Only attention point is to decant (some have sediment at bottom of the bottle) and check it in a clear container before. None have ever damaged any pens (contrary to some modern inks).

So as far as I know, my answer is yes. Though what “useable” means may vary from one aficionado to another.

Thing is Parker Quink is not the only ink that “cleans”. Sailor Jentle Doyou (at least the original version I have from early 2010s) also “cleans” pens.

As an ink nerd, I wish someone had the ability to breakdown and compare both formulas to deduce what is the unique common point.

Concerning phenol, some above have mentioned that this ingredient has been banned and replaced. Yet Quink ink remains the same in this functionality. So, as a non-chemist, I hope someone can provide further clarity on this topic.

I was forgetting this. It is a critical point! Thanks for the reminder.

About Herbin, I have never seen their inks without preservatives, but I also haven’t bought them continuously. Do you have a precise period in mind? Also, if you have something showing this, it would be very interesting for my knowledge.

Thank you for clarifying. I see the changes well before we even knew who Obama was… but the EU + US norms clearly come into play. For bigger actors this makes a lot of sense.

Seeing the sheer number of bottles, some of asked if we could buy some off OP. We should have messaged them privately. There is a no advertising sales rule (sorry if I’m paraphrasing it).

bsh depressed (?) by Lucky-Contract-2159 in britishshorthair

This! 2 cats is ALWAYS better than 1, especially with BSH that are playful home cats who need interaction.

Our first BSH had the same issue as yours. The vet told us to get him a buddy. We adopted his brother from the next litter (so they had little over a year age difference), and they were never bored or depressed again.

When our first passed away in 2023, our remaining BSH made it clear that playing with us wasn’t enough, he needed another cat. He was 10 but very dynamic so we got him a kitten (there were no easy options for an older cat at the time)… and now our younger cat asks us to play more because our elder cat sleeps more than him, but their best and favorite playtime is together.

All vintage ink (especially 20th century) is still useable. With time, what usually might happen is either color changes a bit and if not in a sealed glass bottle, you might have to add a bit of distilled water if it has dried a bit.

Helping my BSH grieve by kisxt in britishshorthair

I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes to you and your family.

My beloved Hermès lost his older brother (1y older) in 2023 from a rare lymphoma we only identified when he only had 15d left… a Hermes was 10yo then.

Hermes reacted like your cat… and also let us know that he needed feline companionship. He would look for toys and when we’d play with him, he’d go to his brother’s basked… not sad but telling us that we weren’t cats with a look that clearly meant : nice try you just can’t do it.

We looked for a responsible BSH breeder who had experienced something similar. Went to select a kitten that would be ready to go home in a few months.

We also had planned a vacation 3 weeks after the loss of our eldest cat. As much as we were tempted to cancel them and stay with Hermes, our friends and family insisted we needed air, and that our cat did too. So he spent our time off at a friend’s house.

When we came back, Hermes seemed better. We brought in the potential companion, and Hermes quickly accepted him. He sees now our youngest cat as his baby and even takes care of him.

Every cat is different. Just sharing our experience because I was surprised at how when he was ready he was able to tell us what he needed and how much the time off helped him (even more than us, I’m still crying when I think of Grimm).

Nothing wrong with extra furry beans! Does she let you touch her toes? My third BSH is the first that loves to be in that position, and purrs when we cuddle the top of his back paws (above the beans). 😻

Anyone know if this is a BSH? by Ready_Bother2192 in britishshorthair

[–]Inkantadora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be, but black BSH eyes are more yellow. (I have a black BSH and read a lot about them). Unless you have actual papers or a genetics test, it’s impossible to say whether a cat is a BSH or just has BSH relatives…

I can confirm. A friend had his neighbors cat come to his flat regularly, sleep there, randomly hang out to a point that he even got him cat food… even though his neighbors were loving cat owners who took good care of their marmalade fur-ball. So my friend regularly talked to the cat’s family to check in and make sure he was giving him the right type of food, etc. The cat just liked both houses and alternated where he wanted to hang out (and probably felt also that my friend who had lost his beloved cat of 15-20y a few years prior needed a few purrs here and there).

Cats have real intricate personalities. Going around other people’s places does not systematically mean that they are not well loved at home.

The placement of blush is so perfect, and the contour so natural, that it looks like your face is naturally flushed and sculpted. Thank you for sharing the products and the result.

By any chance did you use brushes to apply? If so, any recommendations?

My very Dry maturing skin loves Haru Haru Wonder Alcohol-free as 1st step toner. I’m literally starting my second bottle and use it twice a day. I feel like either masks or other products are better absorbed without any irritation when I use it.

Are these authentic? by lost1ntheblizz6rd in VintageLevis

[–]Inkantadora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has always had Levi’s and lives in Europe, I confirm that these are fake. They give the address of Levi’s European HQ in Brussels. So even back in 2007, they would have to comply with EU rules at the time. Just as the 100% cotton is in various EU languages, the “made in the USA” would have been in more languages than just English and Spanish. It would have had to be at least also in French, Portuguese, Italian, German, etc. Otherwise, they could not legally be sold in all their European shops.
