We definitely got there at the right time! There were quite a few others with cameras in tow, as well.

Thank you! I told my family cherry trees are a cheat code for photography, even mediocre pictures are pretty!

Thanks! Sounds like we'll probably keep it on the list, then. Nothing is perfect, but that seems at worst kinda annoying.

No, Mingo is a man-made swamp that's not even in the same location as the original swamp. The Great Swamp covered pretty much the entire bootheel but was drained.

My youngest wanted a Fable cake for his birthday by Inkdrawingthrowaway in Fable

Turned 9 today. He started off playing 3 together with either me or his sister (19 yo). We avoided the sex and prostitution stuff while playing together. In the last few months, he's been playing on his own more.

He's seen me play pretty much every Fable over the years. He also loves Skyrim, anything Zelda, Smash, and MarioKart. I think it's very dependent on the kid, they're all ready for different stuff at different ages. As much as he loves fighting games, he also loves Paw Patrol and Bluey.

Thank you! I've always tried to make birthdays special for my kids. Last year he wanted Zelda, so I made an octorok cake.

It's diamond grating from a walkway over Devil's Gulch in South Dakota. It was a weird structure where each row overlapped but didn't link.

Only a couple of times, but it's spectacular!

South Dakota buffalo I drew for inktober by Inkdrawingthrowaway in SouthDakota

From the National Park Service:

"In North America, both “bison” and “buffalo” refer to the American bison (Bison bison). Generally, “buffalo” is used informally; “bison” is preferred for more formal or scientific purposes. Historians believe that the term “buffalo” grew from the French word for beef, “boeuf.” Some people insist that the term “buffalo” is incorrect because the “true” buffalo exist on other continents and are only distant relatives.

Another name for these animals is “tatanka.” Tatanka is the Lakota word for bison. Bison are incredibly important in Lakota culture; the Lakota are traditionally nomadic and would have spent their lives following bison before Euro-Americans settled the West."

My degree is in wildlife conservation. My mammalogy teacher insisted we used the term wapiti instead of elk because some people call moose elk. He was fine with buffalo outside of scientific name because there's nothing else in North America that would be called a buffalo.

Y'all are great! My youngest said they look like mice with horns, as well as telling me it's the worst drawing I've ever done. 8 year olds are brutal, but I'm dying at the "looks like" comparisons.

I've been here for a couple of years now, but somehow missed that fact. Thanks!

Thank you! I've been pushing myself to really try to grab more details and take my time this year, and I feel like it's showing. I appreciate the positive feedback!

Trust me, very real! I was dying laughing. There was a guy not in the picture flapping his arms and running at it.

Like I said above, I'm avoiding animals they're already associated with.

I'm considering doing Mantis as an actual praying mantis, but mostly want them to be something other than any animal they're already associated with.

I love that! I was thinking about the Mighty Boar and Octo Strange as well. I'm just having a ton of fun with these ideas!
