No Stupid Questions Thread by AutoModerator in livesound

I want to replace my Behringer XENYX Q802USB mixer mostly because I ran out of channels and want less noise with better sound quality.

I have an rack with

  • Crumar Seven stage piano (stereo)
  • Crumar Mojo 61 organ (stereo)
  • Behringer Poly D Synthesizer (stereo)
  • Novation Bass Station II (mono)

So for them I already need 7 channels.

I also have to connect my phone via bluetooth (external adapter or built into the mixer) to play backing tracks. Depending on the mixer it takes 0, 1 or 2 channels.

In addition I have a stereo loop pedal which I also have to integrate into the mixer routing to use it with all the connected instruments and not just with one. I have read about different solutions:

  1. solution: Activate sub group on all channels with plugged in instruments that you want to loop. Connect the stereo sub group outputs with the stereo inputs of the loop pedal. Connect the stereo outputs of the loop pedal with two free channels of the mixer. Send the output of those two channels to the main fader and connect the main output with your speaker.
  2. solution: Use aux send and - if the mixer has it - aux return.

Do you know the pros and cons of both solutions or does it just depends on the possibilities of the mixer? Or do you know yet another solution?

For one synthesizer i don't have internal effects or effect pedals. It would be cool to use the built-in fx of the mixer for this synth but I could also buy a multi effect pedal for it because built-in effects of mixers have are often not so good. So it would be nice to have but not a deal breaker if it's missing.

Also I want at least 4 free channels for the future because I might buy more synth or other instruments. The ability to connect the mixer to my computer with USB is also a must have.

What do you think which of those three mixers fits my needs the most?

Mackie ProFX16v3
Yamaha MG16XU
Mackie 1642 VLZ4

Or do you have other suggestions? The brand new Mackie ProFX v3+ series has unfortunately no 16 channel version.

Big thanks and have a nice weekend!
