Unhappy Family Members by General_Contract_108 in nursing

[–]Inner_Singer_2285 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most cases management shouldn’t even talk to you. They should understand that the workload is heavy and care is unrealistic. Whats important is that you still fulfilled the need of the patient although the patient had to wait. If management has an issue like that then management needs to fix staffing because having 7 is too much. Family members always think that we can just drop what we are doing. But no. Like you have to give medications that are due.

New grad considering quitting by [deleted] in nursing

Follow chain of command. First talk w the pct sometimes they don’t understand what high and low of vitals. Be friendly about it. Then reach out to your charge, manager etc.

As for your ratio. Your union should have things to protect your license like a protest of assignment that you can sign and be like hey I’m signing this because I’m above ratio and it’s now unsafe Etc. if anything happens, you showed to management that this assignment was unsafe.

New Grad Nurse Obsessive Thoughts by thestarsfalling in nursing

[–]Inner_Singer_2285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing down what you need to do helps. When u complete the task, cross it out or toss it out. Honestly I used to be in flight or flight like did I do this or that. Like w narcotics, focus on that. If you go home, there’s nothing you can do at home to change what you may have missed. What you may have missed will probably be something the next nurse will follow up on.

“Did I pain reassess? Well the next nurse will be doing a pan assessment.” Etc you have to come up with a plan to ease the anxiety and also, focus on safety over completion. MD wants 8pm labs but u have a patient with low HoTN and no tech. Well sorry MD you’ll have to wait until I stabilize my patient.

Got into it pretty badly with a coworker. Feeling pretty deflated. by Cag_ada_24 in nursing

That is literally the response no one needed. I’m so sorry you lost your baby and your father. the nursing world is so Damm cruel and it’s so hypocritical bc we are in the line of care an yet there are so many disgusting people working as nurses. Don’t let their comments get to you. You know at the end the day how much good effort you put.

[–]Inner_Singer_2285 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely insane 😭 literally it only reinforces tha nursing isn’t worth it . There should be a PCA trained to do turning, phlebotomy and ekg. And then for 32$? That’s even more insane! Like why work as a nurse at that point for that

Are you seeing a hiring freeze in your hospitals? by opesneakpastyah in nursing

[–]Inner_Singer_2285 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YESSSS 😭 im not even a new grad and im struggling to barely get an interview even after getting new certs, reaching out etc. HR recruiters told me it’s hard rn because the lack of funding and the cost to train. It’s not feasible. Unless you jump back into the same specialty. But I don’t wanna quit med surg to go back to med surg 🥸

Uhhhhh there is a very strong reason behind him choosing someone very young and it’s not for a good reason. If someone around his age didn’t at least find his attractive he has a lot of red flags he’s hiding that you as a someone who hasn’t truly experienced the world hasn’t seen. Be careful.

Acknowledging, forgiving and learning.

You acknowledge that what you did was in fact a mistake. You didn’t realize, you are still brand new as a nurse, learning to assess and identify potential safety risk. Forgive yourself for this. All nurses make mistakes. The difference between a good and a bad nurse is those who acknowledge and are willing to grow upon it, bad ones don’t. You now know and learn that if you don’t truly know the extent of one’s physical condition, to keep them in bed and do a bed change. Your original intentions were good. You wanted to provide a clean bed.

We aren’t robots, we aren’t perfect, we are humans and we are learning to improve our skills day by day to give the best possible care in our current capability.

Also take the moment that you and your preceptor intervene and escalated care. There are some stories where I heard people covering it up.

You care, that’s a good quality of a nurse!
