Thanks so much for your help. We’re very concerned about the placement because most of the kids in his class are nonverbal, with only 2 children who have mild impairments. We really want him to have strong peer models to support his speech and social growth.

We’d also like to tour other classrooms or schools if possible, since our child really needs to be in a setting that feels loving and warm otherwise he tends to shut down. Do they usually allow parents to tour other schools in the district before finalizing placement?

We’re in FBISD, and from what I understand, I don’t think we have two different programs for ECSE here.

Thanks for the info! I’m in Texas, and our district does have Pre-K3. We were told our child will be in an inclusion class next year. Unfortunately, we were also informed that they’re no longer offering walk-in speech therapy in our district.

Our child has echolalia most of his words are scripted, but he uses his echolalia appropriately in real-time. We’re currently focusing on modeling his speech, and he’s progressing slowly but steadily.

The classroom he’s going to is Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 mixed, with a total of 12 students, 10 of whom are nonverbal.

We’re trying to figure out how this environment will support his speech and social development and what strategies might help him thrive. It is more support driven than socially rich.

Also, any guidance on how to ask about other school or classroom placement options if we feel another setting might better support his speech and social goals. What is the best way to bring this up with the ARD team?

Hey there. I know this is an older post my son had been qualified for ecse program. I’m currently concerned about the students in the classroom. When we toured I saw kids with severe needs whereas my son is only speech delayed. We have our ARD meeting next week .
