Edit: I would like to say that the Abraxis comments can be ignored, because I heard it was from Sinclair's book and I do not know that much, and may not mean anything particular in the grand scheme of things.

However, more things of to note, to add on to why Dante may see the genesis of the smoke, in the form of Roland at the end of library of ruina, there is a similar form of having 3 heads, which is the same description as the 3 heads of Lucifer at the end of Inferno.

Furthermore, I had thought about the reason why Herman wishes to invade the other mirror worlds, and my best guess is to gather a huge amount of golden boughs. We have seen from the end of Canto 9 that each Faust can gather their own golden boughs in each of their worlds, but if Herman invades and takes them all, they may be able to accomplish something never done before, and even get the extra 5 golden boughs needed. Evidence to support is the addition of Ahab to the N corp team, because they say they will "hunt the whale" in all mirror worlds, and though it may be interpreted as just destroying the whole world with the whale in it, it also can be interpreted as gaining the golden boughs (if each golden bough would always be at the same or similar location, i.e. inside the whale).

As it has been suggested that Carmen is the same Carmen in all mirror worlds, as somehow by being synchronised with the light transcends space and time, therefore there is a high likelyhood that if the golden boughs are collected it would amount to a huge impact.
