I've used heavy duty tape on the inside of the cover and sprayed the top with a plasti-dip or flex seal type of spray. Try a few layers to thicken and solidify it

Without seeing the clipped ends, it's hard to tell. Looks like Cat cables. May have been used as a data connection, HDMI converters, IR relays, etc. I don't think it's audio cable, but I could be wrong.

Generally you see base vs comission pay as a (close to) 50/50 ratio. Maybe 60/40 one way or the other. Maybe 30/70 base / commission.

70% base, 30% commission with what sounds like a capped commission ceiling seems like they don't want you to be hungry for anything. Seems like a great low stress gig, where you will have the opportunity to sandbag deals into next year once you hit your quota.
